Review: Violet Box May 2015

This month’s box arrived a week into June. I had a to take a second thought about whether it was a May or June box but then realised Violet Boxes always arrive at the end of the month and not the beginning! They did explain on their Facebook page that the delay was due to Violet Box waiting for an item to arrive to their warehouse. Unfortunately, that product (an eye cream) still hasn’t arrived so they decided to send out the May Violet Box without causing even further delays.

Let’s get straight into it…

Violet Box May 2015

Violet Box May 2015

Mitsura Kabuki Brush $14.95
I actually have a number of kabuki brushes in my brush collection but have no idea what to use them for… This one by Mitsura is densely packed with synthetic bristles and feel very soft on the skin.

Soak Skin Booster Body Lotion ~$1.50/25ml ($29.95/500ml)
This body lotion contains chia seeds! I thought chia seeds was to only be consumed but I guess it has other properties like boosting the skin’s barrier function to help your skin look its best. It has a very light oatmeal, citrus scent and is absorbed immediately into the skin leaving no greasy feeling behind!

Hair & Me Hair Rejuvenation Treatment $19.95
I absolutely love hair treatments. I use them in place of conditioner. This Hair & Me Hair Rejuvenation Treatment is an oil-based hair treatment containing oils such as coconut and jojoba to help repair, moisturise and strengthen your hair. I very rarely use oils in my hair as a treatment as it gets ridiculously messy but this seems to have taken out that mess factor so I have no excuses now! It smells very coconutty (yum!) and has a thick creamy texture. This was supposed to be in the April Violet Box but it didn’t arrive to their warehouse in time.

Urban Skincare Co. Backstreet Collection Infuse Body Balm ~$4.53/35ml ($12.95/100ml
Last month, we received the Daily Hand and Body Cleanser. This month is a body moisturiser. This has a strong lemongrass scent (not one of my faves!) but again, like the Soak Skin Booster Body Lotion, it is absorbed into the skin easily and leaves behind no greasy residue.

Meraki by Design Body Scrub $? ($15.95/220g)
A vegan-friendly body scrub, I received this in Blue Vanilla Berry. Body scrubs are having their moment now and I’m still put off by the mess and time factor. I’ll pack this into my travel bag and use it when I’m on holidays. Body scrubs are supposed to be quite good at minimising the appearances of cellulite, stretch marks, spider veins etc and meant to help soothe the skin. The Meraki by Design Body Scrubs are made from raw sugar and oils.

Overall, this month’s box was much better than April’s Violet Box.  The inclusion of two body moisturisers is a bit annoying but they will get used and plus, we’re in Winter now so who doesn’t need body moisturisers?

As always, the value of the box exceeds the monthly subscription fee and Violet Box has again delivered some great products from new brands.

Subscription boxes are available from $22.95/month. For more information on Violet Box, check out their website here.
