Review: Australis Voluptulash mascara

The ultimate volume and building mascara! The curved silicon brush tapers to evenly coat each lash, even in the inner corner of the eye. Delivers natural looking, defined lashes.

Intense payoff for thicker, blacker lashes all day. Contains easy wash-off tubing formulation for no ‘panda eyes’.

Packaging

Pink tube with a brush metal finish. It’s not chunky and the wand handle is easy to hold. Girly and simple.

Product

The brush is intersting. It’s curved with bristles on either side. The other sides are flat. The curved brush makes it easy to curl your lashes whilst coating them at the same time.

The formula is one of those ‘tubing’ ones so it coats your lashes and the easiest way to remove it is to pat your eyes with some water then slide your fingers over your lashes in a downwards motion and the mascara should come off!

It doesn’t lengthen very much but does separate and make them appear more full.

The formula feels wet but it’s not. Strange. Lasts well all day with no smudging.

Review – Australis eyeshadow primer

When I was venturing into cosmetics, I never even heard of eyeshadow primers but once I discovered them, there was no going back! I have really oily lids and my eyeshadows used to crease so badly until I purchased Urban Decay Primer Potion (UDPP) which has been a HG product for me over the past five years.

When I received this in one of my ABBW goodie bags, I was really excited. A readily available eyeshadow primer? Yes please!

Australis eyeshadow primer

Australis is a great budget beauty brand. Despite the brand being available for purchase for over 22 years, I have only just started paying more attention to its products as I feel as though they have really upped their game – this goes for a lot of other Aussie brands like Face of Australia too!

Packaging

It comes packaged in a funky wavy metallic hot pink tube with a doe foot applicator with 10ml of product.

My first thoughts about the packaging was along the lines of “Cute! Very modern.” But then I realised it’s about as silly as the previous Urban Decay Primer Potion genie bottle packaging.

Australis eyeshadow primer

The Australis eyeshadow primer, like UDPP, comes with a doe foot applicator. Whilst this makes it easy to use, it also poses some serious issues. First, hygiene – the whole using the applicator to apply and touch skin and then back it goes into the tube. Secondly, the packaging itself makes it hard to see how much product is left as well as the products that are stuck to the sides are really difficult to scrape out. Urban Decay has experienced this with their packaging which is why they changed it to a squeeze tube.

Product

Primer made specifically for eyelids to extend the wear of eyeshadow colour. It is an oil controlling formula with silica and eye shadow magnets, providing heavy-duty staying power that’s gentle on the eye area.

The product itself is a light beige colour which is a bit thinner than UDPP. You’re instructed to let it completely dry (takes about 30 seconds) before applying eyeshadow over the top.

It is silicone-based meaning that it dries to a very smooth finish and it feels a tad ‘oily’ just sitting on top of your lids. This results in a bit of difficulty in blending your eyeshadows.

I’ve worn it on various occasions and even past the 10 hour mark, there was no creasing. There was slight fading but no creasing!

Despite its downfall being the packaging, I would definitely re-purchase this as it is readily available and works just as well as my HG UDPP!

Purchase

Australis Eyeshadow Primer is available at Priceline, K-Mart, Target, Big W and selected pharmacies for only $12.95AUD. You can probably pick it up for a bit cheaper during the various beauty sales these stores tend to have :)
