Review: Mineral Lifestyle Hair Spa, Paddington

I was very lucky to be offered a 4 week series of intensive facial treatments by Mineral Lifestyle Hair Spa in Paddington. Mineral Lifestyle Hair Spa is a relaxing oasis right on Oxford Street, Paddington. Once you step into the salon, you would never guess that it’s on a busy main road.

The spa is stocked with Aveda products from hair to skincare to makeup. When you first arrive, you’re greeted by a friendly staff member and they get you to fill in an elemental nature questionnaire whilst sipping on your complimentary tea. This elemental questionnaire helps your beauty therapist figure out the appropriate scents and products to use on you for that specific appointment. This is because some days, you may be feeling more stressed than other days etc.

There are 4 treatment rooms out the back and it’s so quiet and dimly lit, you really do forget you’re in Paddington! Each room is slightly different to each other in terms of layout.

My beauty therapist for the 4 weeks was Brittany and she is one of the most knowledgeable therapists I’ve ever come across. She was very patient with me, she knew her stuff, and was able to answer all my questions concerning my skin. You can definitely tell that Brittany loves her job and is very passionate about what she does. She was very attentive and took great care in ensuring I was comfortable and had a great experience.

Facial #1

This initial consultation took 60 minutes and after analysing my skin, Brittany recommended the Perfecting Plant Peel, an intensive deep exfoliation equivalent to a 30% glycolic peel designed to renew the skin’s complexion. Immediately after, my skin felt smooth and refreshed.

My skin did not react ideally to this treatment as my skin become much more oilier during the week. I noted this and informed Brittany at my next appointment.

Facials #2, #3 and #4

After informing Brittany of how my skin reacted to the Perfecting Plant Peel, she suggested we go to the Botanical Resurfacing facial, a natural and innovative alternative to micro-dermabrasion.

Brittany buffed off the bamboo extract and placed a warm towel over me for a minute, as soon as the towel was removed, it felt like new skin resurfacing!

Afterwards, my skin was just glowing. My pores appeared smaller and the very few fine lines I had didn’t appear so noticeable. The oil control was also much better with the Botanical Resurfacing facial.

We continued with the Botanical Resurfacing facial for my 3rd and 4th facials as the results were amazing. My skin looked flawless, glowing and refreshed. I managed to go without a base face product for most of the week.

I have to add, the whole process of getting a facial was so relaxing and calming, I can’t believe it took me this long!

Basically, when you get to the treatment room, the beauty therapist leaves you alone for a few minutes so you can get undressed and into their very comfy bath robe.

When she re-enters, you’re treated to a very nice foot massage. At this stage, you’re also asked to smell 3 different scents and to choose one which you like best. I think I opted for the ‘grounding’ scent most.

The next part is my favourite part – you take the robe off (beauty therapist hides behind a towel), jump onto the bed and the towel is placed on top of you. THEN, you get wrapped up like a caterpillar about to turn into a butterfly in a snug cocoon-like shape with some heavy duty blankets.

Whilst the facial treatment is doing its thing, you receive a nice foot massage and on one occasion, I received a head massage with a hair oil treatment which left my hair feeling SO SO soft!

During all this, you do get a whiff of the scent you chose at the beginning which is meant to calm and relax you.

My favourite thing about my weekly facials was the fact that each facial was customised to how I was feeling each appointment and Brittany took great care to ensure that I left the salon feeling relaxed and great.

Prior to my intensive weekly facials, I did not think much of salon facials. I thought that I was already doing enough with my weekly facials at home. However, after seeing the results, my mind has definitely been changed.

Lust Have It! November 2013

November’s Lust Have It! box was jampacked with lots of goodies, with my favourite beign the Benefit They’re Real mascara (my HG!).

Moving on from my excitement .. November’s Lust Have It! contained…

Lust Have It! November 2013

Lust Have It! November 2013

Exclusive offers – Hello Fresh $30 gift card, free Davroe Rebuilder Protein Reconstructor 50ml ($14.95) when purchasing a Davroe Luxe Leave In Masque 200g and a complimentary eye and brow make-upper.

As for the actual samples, we’ve got…

Mary Kay Brow Definer Pencil in Soft Black $17/1.13g

This is in Soft Black but it seems more like a dark brown to me. The name aside, the colour is a nice match and I am still on the hunt for the perfect brow shade and product so looking forward to trying this out.

Lust Have It! November 2013 – Mary Kay Brow Definer Pencil $17/1.13g

Mary Kay Soothing Foot Balm (~$9.50/85g)

This is actually part of a Mary Kay Pedicure Set (limited edition) that retails for $38. With 4 products in the set, it makes each product $9.50 which is cheap! I apply this before bed and then wear socks (unless it’s a ridiculously hot night) and next morning, I wake up with soft feet :) It has a slightly natural scent but nothing too offensive.

Mary Kay Thinking of You EDP  sample towelettes

It smells heavily of florals and just too strong for me..

Benefit They’re Real! mascara ($38/8.5ml = ~$13.41/3ml sample)

As mentioned above, this is my HG mascara. This sample size is great for taking on overnight/weekend trips. It makes my lashes long and luscious, holds a curl and my lashes aren’t crunchy. Win, win, win!

Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Gentle Exfoliating Facial Scrub ($9.99/150ml = ~$1/15ml sample)

Great size for travel. I’ll probably chuck this into my ‘travel samples’ stash haha

Aveda Hydrating Creme ($89.95/50ml) and Purifying Gel Cleanser ($54.95/150ml) = ~$15.15 for 2 x 7ml samples

Same as above; good size for travel. Have never used Aveda products so it’s a good size to try and see if I like it.

Lonvitalite C3 Red Wine Mask ($32/5 pack = $6.40)

Have never tried this brand of face masks before so will report back. I am addicted to face masks!

Davroe Colour Senses Ends Repair ($9.95/50ml)

I’ve never heard of Davroe but wow, cheap hair products here I come. Promises to seal split ends and especially formulated for colour treated hair – words that suck me right in!

With a total of $72.41, this month’s box contained a wide variety of samples in both full size and sample sizes.

Lust Have It is a monthly beauty subscription box costing $19.95/month.
