Brand Focus: Nudestix

Nudestix

Nudestix

Nudestix is a brand that is all about multi-tasking, easy to use products. Their brand motto is #gonudebutbetter.

I have been so lucky to have met the face behind the brand twice now and each time, I am just in awe at how passionate and involved Taylor and Ally are with Nudestix.

I was first introducted to Nudestix last year at a Sephora brands showcase. I walked away with 4 different shades of their Metallic Eye Color Pencils and a Brow Stylus.

Nudestix is all about the makeup pencils. It is legit makeup pencil errthang! Sure, makeup brands were all about the lip crayons a year ago but Nudestix has stepped it up and they have not only the eye and lip pencils we usually see but also, a skincare pencil range. Wut? Yep. There’s a Sculpting Pencil, which is dual-ended to contour and highlight with, and a Skin Pencil range one for blurring, cleaning up, mattify and moisturise.

They all come in a sleek black metal tin with an accompanying mirror on the inside of the lid and their own sharpener. This makes them very travel friendly as you can pack all the pencils you need just in one tin!

First up, I will be discussing the Magentic Eye Color Pencils ($35AUD)  – I have this in the shades: Angel, Spirit, Moon, Lilith, Gilt and Spirit.

I generally have oily lids and usually don’t go without an eyelid primer. However, one day, I forgot my trusty eyelid primer and only had these on me. I applied it anyway and 10 hours later, my lids are still looking fresh AF. There was no creasing to be seen! This is exciting news for my oily lids and is a testament as to how long wearing the Magnetic Eye Color Pencils are.

The Magnetic Eye Color Pencils glide on so easily so you can be sure there is no eyelid tugging happening. In addition to this, the colour payoff is even and intense.

I also have the Eye Pencil ($34AUD) in Bronze. This is not as long-lasting as the Magentic Eye Color Pencils above nor is it as intense. This gives me a smooth, satin finish and comes with a smudger, so is my go-to for a quick smokey eye.

Moving onto the Brow Stylus ($34AUD) – this is a waterproof, 2-in-1, triangled tip eyebrow pencil. I received the shade Brown but found there was too much of a red undertone for me to pull it off. Shade aside, it was very easy to use. It glides on easily and the triangled tip definitely helped in creating hair-like strokes. The gel on the other end is also coloured and the size is perfect for brushing those brow hairs into place.

Ahh, now my favourites – the Intense Matte Lip + Cheek Pencils ($39AUD). I have this in Royal, a neutral red and Belle, a perfect mix of pink and brown.

These are touted to be waterproof, kiss-proof and non-feathering for up to 6 hours. Despite being a matte finish, these are very soft, creamy and not drying at all. You can use this to colour in your lips and swipe onto your apples and blend for some quick cheek colour.

Last, but not least, their Blur ($38AUD) pencil. This is an instant line and pore filler to Give the appearance of smooth and flawless skin. I like to use this on my lips before applying matte lipsticks so they don’t settle into any fine lines.

So there you have it – a quick introduction to Nudestix and my favourite products from them. You can purchase them from Sephora, in store and online.

Brand Spotlight Series – MAC Rocker lipstick (#010)

Name: Rocker
Finish: Matte
Collection: By Request

MAC Rocker lipstick

Like Moxie, Rocker was also part of the By Request collection.

Rocker is a dark red shade with some brown understones and multicolour shimmer. The shimmer is noticeable on the lipstick bullet but when applied, you can only see it when the light hits.

MAC Rocker lipstick

This is pretty much my ultimate vampy lipstick shade. It reminds me of blood!

MAC Rocker lipstick

Again, as I am not a fan of matte lipsticks and this is no exception, I like to apply this over well moisturised lips and lasting time is pretty good as well due to the matte finish – 5 to 6 hours, leaving behind a dark red lip stain.

Brand Spotlight Series – MAC Moxie lipstick (#009)

Name: Moxie
Finish: Matte
Collection: By Request

MAC Moxie lipstick

MAC’s By Request collection earlier this year was an interesting one. It’s essentially a collection voted by MAC fans. MAC put up a list of lipsticks, eyeshadows and lipglasses and the top 3 in each category was then launched.

The top 3 lipsticks were Moxie, Rocker and Candy Yum-Yum.

MAC Moxie lipstick

Moxie is a warm bright pink with red tones. It’s a matte finish so I prefer to apply this over some lip balm. Despite reading reviews on various beauty blogs about the matte finish being quite easy to work with, I found that if I applied it straight onto my lips, it clung onto the dry patches and felt a bit uncomfortable. The upside to a matte finish is its lasting time which went way beyond 4 hours. It leaves a faint stain by the 5-6th hour. I get opaque coverage in just one swipe!

MAC Moxie lipstick

Ever since receiving Moxie, it has quickly become one of my favourite lipsticks. It brightens up my face without it being too ‘out there’ for everyday wear.

Brand Spotlight Series – MAC Viva Glam Nicki lipstick (#008)

Name: Viva Glam Nicki
Finish: Satin
Collection: Viva Glam

MAC Viva Glam Nicki lipstick

Viva Glam Nicki is Nicki Minaj’s second collaboration with MAC for the Viva Glam AIDS fund. Now, whether or not you like MAC and/or Nicki Minaj, the MAC Viva Glam AIDS fund is a great cause. All proceeds for the sales of their Viva Glam lipsticks go directly to the fund.

This is available for a year from the date of release so it should be available for another couple of months.

MAC Viva Glam Nicki lipstick

Viva Glam Nicki is described by MAC as a

light yellow pink

It has a satin finish so it’s not glossy but not completely matte. It applies quite evenly however, it does cling onto any dry flakes on your lips. It is pigmented where one swipe is enough for coverage.

MAC Viva Glam Nicki lipstick swatch - natural light

Viva Glam Nicki, on my pigmented lips, is a pale pink which is disappointing as I purchased it based on reviews that it had that neon brightness. You can see this in the swatch…

MAC Viva Glam Nicki lipstick

Lasting time is about 3-4 hours before requiring another application.

This is one of those shades where I am not too sure if I want to keep or sell.

Brand Spotlight Series – MAC Party Parrot lipstick (#007)

Name: Party Parrot
Finish: Matte
Collection: Iris Apfel

MAC Party Parrot lipstick

Seeing as Spring is around the corner, I thought I’d pull out Party Parrot, which has been sitting untouched for a month or two now.

Party Parrot was released recently with the Iris Apfel collection. It was one of five bright shades available in the collection.

MAC Party Parrot lipstick

Party Parrot is a bright dark pink on my slightly pigmented lips although is described by MAC strangely as

Bright cleanest pink

MAC Party Parrot lipstick swatch - natural light

It is a stunning shade of pink that is very flattering on me and lasts for hours due to its matte finish. Despite it being a matter finish, it applied very easily and the texture is quite creamy for a matte. It did cling onto some of the dry parts on my lips so better moisturise your lips well before wearing this.

It’s a highly sought after shade and understandably so…BUT don’t fret – there’s a close dupe from the PRO line – MAC Impassioned lipstick – swatched here by another beauty blogger.

Brand Spotlight Series – MAC Ever Hip lipstick (#005)

MAC Ever Hip lipstick

Name: Ever Hip
Finish: Cremesheen
Collection: Give Me Liberty of London

I have previously featured this lipstick on my blog – click here.

MAC Ever Hip lipstick

This version is from the Give Me Liberty of London collection but it was always released in the more recent Fashion Flower collection.

MAC Ever Hip lipstick swatch - natural light

Ever Hip is a pinky-coral that is perfect for Spring. There’s really not much else to say. It’s nice, gives semi-opaque coverage and I love the shade and packaging! Per its finish, it does feel slightly creamy but not too creamy that it just splodges on everywhere.

Wear time is quite average for a cremesheen – about 3 hours before I need to reapply.

Brand Spotlight Series – MAC Strawbaby lipstick (#004)

Name: Strawbaby
Finish: Lustre
Collection: Fafi

MAC Strawbaby lipstick

Strawbaby was released in 2008 as part of Fafi’s collaboration with MAC. This collection also had the limited edition packaging. MAC kept the black bullet for the lipsticks but they also included a neat and cute outer slip featuring one of three Fafi dolls for the bottom half of the lipstick. When you remove the sleeve, you’re simply left with the plain black bullet. I remember when this was released, so many people freaked out about the packaging but it doesn’t bother me.

MAC Strawbaby lipstick

MAC describes this as a coral rose with rainbow pearl but I don’t see the coral! To my eyes, it’s like shade of strawberry jam with rainbow sparkles – but predominantly blue and purple. What I love about Strawbaby is that the sparkles are not obnoxious and in your face – you need to be in the right light and angle and you’ll see it. This makes it a bit more interesting than your standard rosy lipstick. The sparkles are not gritty at all. They’re really fine and it’s not a dense concentration at anything so you don’t feel it on your lips.

MAC Strawbaby lipstick swatch - natural light (Apologies for the goosebumps! It's been freezing in Sydney)

Being a lustre, it’s sheer and doesn’t take long before it fades. About 1-2 hours (if I’m lucky!) later and I need to re-apply.

Strawbaby is one of my favourite MLBB shades. I pop it on when I want something a bit more than just a muted rosy shade.

Brand Spotlight Series – MAC Rocking Chick lipstick (#003)

Name: Rocking Chick
Finish: Frost
Collection: Barbie Loves MAC

Thought I’d brighten up today’s gloomy weather with one of my favourite bright pinks from MAC.

MAC Rocking Chick lipstick

I loved the packaging from the Barbie Loves MAC collection. The lipsticks had the pink Barbie logo and so did the eyeshadows! Love.

MAC Rocking Chick lipstick

Rocking Chick is a hot pink with a slight blue undertone and microshimmer. The blue undertone makes your teeth appear whiter – score! I love wearing Rocking Chick when I can’t be bothered to do a full face of makeup or my creative brain just isn’t working. I just put this one, do a winged liner and nude blush and out the door I go.

MAC Rocking Chick lipstick swatch - natural light

As one of the brighter colours with not a lot of gloss or shine, Rocking Chick lasts about 5 hours before completely fading.

Brand Spotlight Series – MAC Rebel lipstick (#002)

Name: Rebel
Finish: Satin
Collection: Permanent

MAC Rebel lipstick

Rebel looks so intimidating but when worn, it is the most perfect autumn shade.

MAC Rebel lipstick swatch - natural, overcast light

I apologise for the mediocre swatch picture. The colour itself is pretty true to life. It’s just my skin colour that looks off due to the slightly overcast weather.

It’s quite difficult to describe – it’s primarily berry toned but has variations of pinks and reds as well! Being a satin finish, it applies nicely with great pigmentation. You can apply it lightly for a stain or go full out and have it applied full strength for maximum impact.

MAC Rebel lipstick swatch - natural light

Rebel has one of the best wear times out of all my lipsticks. It lasts about 8 hours!! It leaves a beautiful berry stain on the lips without looking weird. Love.

It kinda tugs a bit if you apply straight from the tube but I usually use a lip brush so it doesn’t bother me too much.

Brand Spotlight Series – MAC lipsticks #001

This first post will be a bit boring but it’ll save me from repeating a lot of this throughout the series.

MAC lipsticks, typically, have the black bullet casing. From time to time, there’ll be limited edition packaging with the colour of the black changed to the corresponding collection colour.

The packaging is basic, simple and practical. However, I’ve had comments that they look like tampons. Especially when I spill the contents of my bag.

MAC lipsticks are also known for their signature vanilla smell. It smells so beautiful. If lipsticks any lip products really needed  a smell, let it be vanilla. Not sickly and overly sweet vanilla but subtle vanilla.

There are 9 different finishes for MAC lipsticks.

Cremesheen – creamy and pigmented. Full coverage.
Satin – matte with a bit of sheen for a non-flat look.
Lustre – kind of a sheer finish. Glossy/shiny.
Matte – no shine finish. High intensity colour. Can be a bit drying.
Amplified –
this is similar to a matte finish in that it’s a creamy solid colour
Amplified cream – very creamy, shiny and soft. Can have a sheen or slight pearl finish.
Frost – basically, it is what it says. It’s got a pearly high sheen finish
Dazzle – lots of glitter!
Glaze –
really sheer finish.

MAC is a mid-end brand and I love their price point (in the US anyways…). MAC lipsticks are $14.50USD/$36.00AUD and you get 3g/0.1us oz of product. It’s affordable especially if you’re just starting out.

MAC has counters available at selected Myer and David Jones stores but I usually get a friend from the USA to purchase them for me and send them over. They also have stand alone ‘PRO’ stores as well. I know there’s one in Paddington.
