What’s In My Travel Bag – Hong Kong and Singapore Version

Firstly, I’d like to apologise for the lack of posts. I went on a whirlwind trip to Singapore and Hong Kong for 10 days and didn’t have time to schedule posts! But now I’m back :)

I love seeing what skincare, beauty, cosmetic products people take with them on their holidays. This was what I brought with me:

In my carry-on:

Lanolips – couldn’t find my 101 Ointment in time for this trip, so I opted for the lip balm to prevent my lips from drying out.
Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Hand Cream – this is a super intensive hand cream that’s great to combat the dryness that comes with the recycled airplane air. It gets absorbed quickly into my skin and doesn’t leave a greasy mess behind.
Sheet Mask – we all know how drying the air can be on the plane so a face mask always helps to keep my face hydrated. I like to travel with a sheet mask (or two if it’s a long haul flight) and put it on once I get settled in.
Dermalogica Ultrasoothing Eye Serum – once I remove the sheet mask, I apply some eye cream and moisturise and off to sleep I go! Right before landing, I’ll apply a bit more to brighten up my eyes.
Kora Organics Energising Citrus Mist – whenever my skin is feeling a bit dry and tight, I’ll spray this mist. It’s refreshing and brightens up my skin instantly.
Eyedrops – the dry air irritates my eyes so eye drops are an essential!
Hand sanitiser – cos germs everywhere.

What I actually packed for 10 days in locations with high humidity. On holidays, I tend to wear as little makeup as possible as I like to use that time to go exploring!

Cleanser – Bioderma Sebium Purifying Foaming Gel. I’ve used this before and I know it works well with my skin so packed a sample size one on the trip to use it up!
Exfoliator – Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant. This is my HG exfoliator. It’s so gentle but works effectively.
Toner – Kora Organics Energising Citrus Mist. Multi-tasking :)
Moisturiser – Nivea Q10 Day Cream. My favourite everyday moisturiser which works well as a base as well.
Makeup remover – Bioderma Sebium Purifying Cleansing Micelle Solution*. Again, another HG. My go-to makeup remover! Feels like water but removes EVERY trace of makeup.
Night cream – Nivea Q10 Night Cream. Not greasy, and wake up with soft and hydrated skin. Winning.
Eye cream – Dermalogica Ultrasoothing Eye Serum*. Gentle and keeps the eye area moisturised.
Serum – Hydraluron*. The different climate caused havoc with my skin for a bit and Hydraluron helped keep it moisturised and soft.

Clarins BB Skin Perfecting Cream* – I’ve used this so much and can’t believe I haven’t written a review on it yet. It’s one of my HG products because it provides medium coverage yet feels so light on the skin.
Australis ACONTOUR* – All about that contour game!
NARS Luster blush and theBalm Frat Boy – I opted for a dusty rose and peachy blush as they seem to be the most flattering on my skintone.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow – Again, another HG. Perfect brows that stay put in the humid!
NARS Creamy Radiant Concealer – Lack of sleep meant heavy eye bags and I knew that this NARS concealer had its work cut out. Did not disappoint!
Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes eyeliner – Didn’t pack any eyeshadows with me so for some definition, I packed this. Long-lasting and does not smudge.
Benefit They’re Real mascara – Knowing that it was the Summer in Hong Kong and Singapore, I knew I had to pack some waterproof, hard to remove with water products to make it through the trip. This Benefit mascara is one of my favourites. It holds a curl well and even has its own remover.
Edward Bess Ultra Slick lipstick in Night Romance, Bite Beauty Sucre matte cream lip crayon and NARS Velvet Matte lip pencil in Dragon Girl – opted for one everyday, one for night and one which can multitask for any occasion.
Batiste Dry Shampoo – ok, so technically not a makeup product but a beauty product nonetheless and one I cannot live without!

Review: Dermalogica UltraCalming UltraSmoothing Eye Serum

Throughout my teens, I always thought that anti-aging products were not relevant to me at all. That was until I realised – prevention is better than a cure. So I have been using anti-aging products more often now. As I’ve gotten older, I notice fine lines around my eyes! Shock horror. Hoarding anti-aging eye creams like a fiend now….See my thoughts on the new Dermalogica UltraClaming UltraSmoothing Eye Serum.

Dermalogica UltraCalming UltraSmoothing Eye Serum ($69AUD/15ml) aims to not only reduce the apperance of fine lines around your eyes but also treat your sensitive eyes.

What Dermalogica says…

  • Brown and Red Algae and Golden Chamomile to minimize puffiness
  • Oat Kernel Extract to soothe fragile skin
  • Cross-linked Hyaluronic Acid to optimize hydration
  • Exclusive Ultracalming Complex to minimize sensitivity

This is much lighter than normal eye creams, hence the name serum (duh, J!)…and is absorbed quickly into the skin. I’ve never actually used an eye serum before (only eye creams) but the consistency is very similar to that of face serums. It does have a slight lavender scent. Now, I detest lavender but I was able to deal with the scent in this one so it isn’t that strong at all. Plus, it doesn’t linger around so that’s a good thing. My eye area tends to get a bit dry so my favourite way of using this is first, apply the serum then apply an eye cream over it for extra hydration.

Packaging wise it gets a thumbs up from me. It has a syringe-like packaging which is hygenic and keeps it away from sunlight to prolong shelf life.

Results – The first month or so of using it, I was happy that it was keeping my eye area looking plump and reduced some fine lines. However, after using it today, I am IN LOVE. This thing works!! Last night, I woke up with my right eye all swollen from … something; I don’t know? And then I remembered that this eye serum promises to reduce puffiness so I applied it around the swollen eye and voila – no joke, after 2 minutes, my eye wasn’t swollen anymore and appeared more normal than before!

Dermalogica UltraCalming UltraSmoothing Eye Serum is $69AUD for 15ml and can be purchased from Dermalogica skin centres, selected David Jones stores and online like RY (which has it for cheaper than RRP!)
