Violet Box July 2014

After celebrating its first birthday last month, Violet Box has a new look packaging – it now comes in a slide out box which I know will definitely come in handy when I need to store random bits and bobs.

This month’s box included the following:

Violet Box July 2014

Skin & Co Truffle Therapy Serum $12.50/5ml ($75/30ml)
I’m not good at describing scents but this smells amazing. Like a light, coconut milk, floral, grassy mix. Ok, that may not sound so appealing but trust me, it smells nice haha. It is non-greasy, and was absorbed into my skin very quickly.

Sukin Skin Purifying Facial Mask $2.40/16ml ($15/100ml)
This is a clay-based facial mask that I feel would be a great all rounder especially when your skin just isn’t feeling its best but you’re not quite sure what it needs or what specific face mask you should use. It is suitable for all skin types and cleanses, tone and de-stresses your skin. I also liked that this sample was a double satchel allowing for two uses.

KMS California Hair Play Molding Paste $5.33/20ml ($40/150ml)
Ah, something that I would never use and will definitely be going to a family member or friend. Promises to add definition, provide texture and create a pliable hold for your hair.

LAQA&Co Sheer Lip Lube Pencil $20
Another jumbo lip pencil to add to my ever growing collection. There is no shade name on the product itself which is quite annoying! However, after perusing their website, I have concluded that this is the shade Stranger Danger. Stranger Danger is a wearable hot pink, which has amazing pay off upon first swipe. It goes on glossy and with Shea butter as an ingredient, it is not drying on your lips.

As an aside, I think they could’ve come up with a slightly better name than ‘lip lube’…

Dr. Hauschka Lavender Sandalwood Calming Body Wash $6/10ml ($26/200ml)
First off, I am not a fan of anything lavender scented but I think this will come in handy when summer rolls around and my heat rashes resurface.

So Susan Flutter Mascara $32
As I currently have 3 opened mascaras on rotation, I won’t be using this until I’ve used up one. All I can comment on is the packaging, which is really luxe with its gold body. The mascara is marketed to deliver the darkest, curviest lashes possible for you. Hope it can deliver on that promise!

As an extra, Violet Box also included a small satchet sample of Beyoncé Rise.

Overall, I’m not as impressed with the box as I have in the past however, it doesn’t mean I didn’t like it because I did – 4 out of 6 products which I will definitely be using makes for a great box and of course, I always like to think of the value of these boxes and this month was no different. The So Susan mascara alone is more than the monthly subscription fee. In addition to that, I like the fact that half the brands included this month are new brands to me.

I have noticed that the boxes are arriving pretty late into the month. The last few boxes I have received have all arrived in the last week and a half of the month. I would prefer for the boxes to arrive earlier on in the month but that may just be personal preference,
