Face of the day featuring Face of Australia Lip Quench SPF30+

I rarely post full face of the day pictures and I apologise these are not that great. They were taken with the Instagram app. It’s purpose is just to show off the lipsticks!

This is with Lychee Crush

On the rest of my face (as if you could tell lol):

Benefit Hoola (to contour)
Illamasqua Rude cream blush

Malibu Barbie face of the day with nothing BUT Malibu Barbie!

Review: Face of Australia Lip Quench SPF 30+ in Lychee Crush and Malibu Barbie

Face of Australia Lip Quench SPF 30+

Seeing as I have literally 50+ brand new in box cosmetic products sitting around waiting to be reviewed, swatched and photographed for Beauty Snippets, I placed myself on a no-low-buy. And it was going well. Until the Australian beauty blogging world went all googly-eyed over Face of Australia Lip Quench SPF 30+. But not just a shade from their existing line. Face of Australia launched six new Lip Quench shades (first blogged about here) and the two shades getting the most love from beauty bloggers? Lychee Crush and Malibu Barbie. Both at opposite ends of the brightness spectrum but so well loved!

These Lip Quenches come in sleek matte rubberised black packging. Matte packaging, whilst not as pretty as shiny packaging, are more practical. They don’t attract fingerprints or dust.

The top of the lid is clear so you know what shade your hands are grabbing early in the morning. I love easy identification 😀

The lipstick feels sturdy and the cap goes on tightly. It doesn’t just fall on and off, you have to put a bit of effort to take the lid off or put it back on. This makes it ideal when you want to do touch ups on the go. I’ve had a lot of lipstick caps just come off when it’s in my makeup bag and it hurts me to see the damage :(

A small thing I don’t like is how the lipstick bullet peeks out of the top so if you’re a klutz like me, putting back on the cap sees you damaging the top of the lipstick. It just doesn’t sit flush!

Malibu Barbie is such a fitting name for this blue-based bright bubblegum Barbie pink. As you can see from the swatches below, my lips were not in the best condition.

However thanks to its moisturising ingredients, the lipstick did not cause me any further dryness. It did however catch onto the flaking skin :( So my tip is to prep and moisturise your lips prior to application.

Wear time was average – 4-5 hours and that’s with me eating lunch and having drinks! It leaves a pretty pale pink stain that won’t really move unless you really wipe that bugger off.

Lychee Crush, on the other hand, is a nude beige pink. It’s reminiscent of a rockmelon flesh. When worn, it’s a gorgeous peachy nude that doesn’t wash me out.

Wear time for Lychee Crush was slightly less than Malibu Barbie – about 2-3 hours.

Both lipsticks have a slight waxy smell but this is a trade-off I am willing to make as it’s very rare to find a lipstick, let alone a cheap one, that has SPF 30+. The waxy smell does not linger, thank goodness!

You can purchase these online from or at selected Priceline, Big W or K-Mart stores. For your nearest stockist, check here.

I’ve read that some bloggers had trouble finding these shades at some stores! I know my local ones had a couple left so let me know if you’d like me to pick one (or two!) up for you.
