Review: Keeko Oil

Oil pulling is an ancient practice going back about 3,000 years. Our mouths harbour bacteria, fungi, and viruses. These germs cause oral health problems such as gum disease and tooth decay. Oil pulling involves swishing coconut oil in your mouth for about 15 minutes, spit it out and then brush as usual.

There are many benefits to oil pulling such as white teeth, banishing bad breath, preventing cavities, improved immunity and strengthened gums and jaw. Why this method works is because coconut oil is antimicrobial and is an effective fighter against the tooth decay causing bacteria.

I tried oil pulling once but I was not a fan of scooping solid coconut oil into my mouth and swishing it til it melted. Sensitive gag reflexes meant I was constantly gagging for the whole 15 minutes!

Keeko Oil is an Australian brand which has formulated blend of three delicious cold pressed coconut and essential organic oils to make oil pulling easy and mainstream.

Keeko Oil

Keeko Oil

I trialled the Citrus Burst flavour and I am a convert. Keeko Oil makes the oil pulling method so enjoyable and easy. Each sachet is 1 tablespoon – the recommended amount for oil pulling; and the flavours mean no more gagging. Citrus Burst is a delicious mix of lemon, lime and pink grapefruit. The sachets are portable too making them ideal for travel. The coconut oil does solidify in cold weather but you can rub the satchet between your hands to warm it up, or like me, run it under warm water.

After trying the method over the last two weeks, I can definitely say my teeth appear brighter and after each swishing session, my teeth are feeling cleaner and smoother. I am an avid coffee and tea drinker so my teeth aren’t as white as I would like them. However, oil pulling has made them whiter! I wish I had thought to take before and after pictures but I’ve found some reviews on the interwebs – one and two. I’ve always avoided chemical teeth whitening as I was scared it would wear down the teeth enamel in result in (even more) sensitivity. But this. THIS. is au naturel!

Sure, you can just oil pull with plain ol’ coconut oil, but if you’re anything like me and can’t stand the smell and/or taste of coconut oil, give these a try. Keeko Oil has mad the process much more enjoyable for me and I will keep on going with this as the results have been surprising.

You can purchase Keeko Oil from their website – here –  and come in three different flavours, Morning Mint, Citrus Burst, and Sweet Sensation. A two week pack costs $38.95.

Post-Holiday Blues

Hello dear readers!

Sorry for the lack of posts. I’ve been back from my holiday for a month now and yet I still can’t seem to get blogging again.

I have a number of drafts just waiting for some final touches so hopefully it won’t be too long until this blog gets back into the swing of things!

I had an amazing trip to Singapore and Malaysia. The shopping was insane. I managed to bring back a suitcase worth of shopping much to my boyfriend’s disbelief haha. I will do a haul post soon (probably right after this).

Have a good weekend xx

By the time you’re reading this, I will be on a plane to Singapore and Malaysia!

This is just a quick update to apologise in advance for the sporadic posting for the next three weeks. I have tried to schedule a post or two while I’m away.

I will hopefully have access to the internet so follow me on Instagram (@beauty_snippets) and Twitter (@beauty_snippets) for pictures and updates!

See you all in 3 weeks xx

Thank you, dear readers, for a fantastic 2012!

Dearest Beauty Snippets’ readers,

Beautiful Lengths and National Donate Your Hair Week

Without getting to personal, cancer is a close thing to my heart, as I am sure it is for many of you. Normally, I don’t rehash press releases but this one is an exception.

Image from

Cancer is known as the leading cause of death in Australia and the stats are quite grim. Nearly everyone will be affected by cancer – either first hand or know someone who is affected by cancer. Scary huh? :(

Launched about 2 months ago was the Pantene Beautiful Lengths Program in partnership with the Look Good…Feel Better charity which hopes to inspire women all around Australia to grow, cut and donate 20cm of their hair which will then get created in real hair wigs for women undergoing cancer treatment. The best thing? These wigs are distributed at no cost to the patients.

Pantene USA has been running this mission since 2006 and in doing so:

311 000 ponytails have been received to create 24 000 real hair wigs

A wonderful blogger, Kimmi from The Plastic Diaries, donated her hair to the program – check out her post here.

My hair grows insanely fast but it has been dyed to an inch of its life which unfortunately means I cannot chop my locks for this fantastic cause. However, if you, like Kimmi, can, consider it!

Along with this program is the National Donate Your Hair Week beginning Monday 12th November 2012. To kick off that week will be an event held at Martin Place (Sydney CBD() where Pantene ambassodors Zoe Foster and Barney Martin will be present. Barney Martin and his team will also be offering the first 100 women who donate their hair a free haircut. As mentioned, Zoe Foster will be at the event and will be offering her styling advice.

All donors will be walking away knowing they donated to a great cause, plus a great hairstyle and a gift pack with a selection of haircare products. Additionally, you will be in with a chance to meet the program’s other ambassodor, Naomi Watts.

Vaseline Winners Redrawn

I haven’t heard back from one of the four winners so I had to redraw another winner – Tram :)

[GIVEAWAY CLOSED] Vaseline Giveaway

Hi all! Just thought I’d hold this small giveaway to coincide with the end of the working week for most people. I’m so knackered this week – Work, uni assessments, lack of sleep, catching up on backlog of posts etc

Vaseline has been a brand that has been the one constant in my fickle beauty life. Even when I was a baby, my mum would have a tub of Vaseline around the house for when me and my sister’s skin gets dry and flaky. However, whilst perusing the internet, I have found many different uses for Vaseline both very practical and in my beauty routine!

My favourite use? Definitely using it for my cuticles when I can’t find my Lush Lemony Flutter and dabbing it around my hairline prior to dying my hair.

Four lucky winners will receive a prize pack worth $43.11 from Vaseline which includes;

Vaseline Dry Skin Conditioning Lotion 375ml
Vaseline Cocoa Butter Smoothing Body Butter
Vaseline Petroleum Jelly 100g
Vaseline Petroleum Jelly Lip Therapy
Vaseline healthy hand and nail
Vaseline Intensive Rescue Moisture Locking Body Lotion 400mL

All perfect for moisturising your body to prepare it for Summer!

Beauty Snippets is featured on iFabbo

Yesterday afternoon, it was brought to my attention by Tram of The Beautifool that Beauty Snippets was featured on iFabbo’s list of 50 Australian Beauty Blogs to Watch.

I am so honoured to have been featured on that list as I have always felt that my blog is always under the radar. I blog mainly for me as a creative outlet. I never set out to get this blog as popular as can be. But over time, I gained readers and commenters and for that, I am grateful.

Blogging has allowed me to meet some wonderful people who are always willing to lend a helping hend or crack a joke to make me laugh. They are all so knowledgeable and are happy to answer any questions.

So to make this short, thanks to my wonderful readers!
