April 2016 Empties

I have always wanted to do monthly posts – favourites, empties etc but I can never commit. I always forget to keep my empties so that I can blog about them; I am too fickle to really have monthly favourites but I am going to try.

Earlier in April, I finally graduated university and completed college. This meant I no longer needed my desk as a “study” desk and I was able to clean it out and convert it into sanctuary, that is, my makeup desk. It gave me so much pleasure to be able to display my makeup in all its glory. Anyhow, this meant I was able to see products, at a glance, that were close to empty and use them up for an empties post! Yay!

So what did I use up in the month of April?

April 2016 empties

Curash Fragrance Free baby wipes – these are my go to when I am lazy to remove my makeup. I have gone through about ten of these and always repurchase. This time, however, after cleaning out and reorganising my beauty stash, I didn’t repurchase the baby wipes as I had other facial cleansing wipes to use up.

Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy – a scent that has been in my stash for years. As I keep my fragrances away from sunlight, it kept really well. I saw that it had a bit left so committed myself to using it until it was finished. I loved this scent when I purchased it and still do – it’s a very fruity and sweet without being sickening. A scent from my teenage years, it was time to move on. Kind of symbolic that I finished this in the same month as completing another chapter in my life. I probably won’t repurchase as I have way too many perfumes go through and I tend to gravitate towards floral scents nowadays.

Britney Spears Curious – another purchase from  my teenage  years that was sent to the back shelf of my perfume stash. Wasn’t a favourite of mine so won’t be repurchasing.

Innoxa Anti-Ageing Makeup Setting Spray* – a setting spray formulated with skincare ingredients such as aloe vera and cucumber. I love the smell of this – vsry fresh and soothing. As I have an oily t-zone, makeuo setting sprays are a must. This kept my makeup on longer than usual and kept the oils at bay for longer. I’m uncertain if I will repurchase as I think I prefer my Urban Decay one over this as it keeps my makeup on until it’s time to remove.

Avene Gentle Toner – alcohol- and oil- free, this was ok. Didn’t notice any amazing changes in my skin so won’t repurchase as I use witch hazel for my toner and its cheaper and does the trick.

Bioderma Sebium H2O – Bioderma’s cleansing waters are my favourites. It has gained holy grail, desert island status. Sebium is the range designed for acne-prone and oily skin but does have a very light floral fragrance. If, like me, you don’t like the fragrance, do as I do and opt for the original fragrance-free bottle from the Sensibio range. I already have three backup bottles of these stashed away.

Bioderma Sebium Pore Refiner – promises to tighten your pores and improve skin texture – not sure about that but it did provide a good base for my makeup and didn’t break me out. Undecided as to whether I will repurchase.

Mary Kay Signature Eye Primer – works just as well as my Urban Decay one but I can’t seem to find it anymore. Luckily, I still have an Urban Decay and Australis one to use up.

Smitten Cosmetics Whipped Foundation – not an empty but throwing it out. It came with my Violet Box and has separated in the tube so I was unable to use it :(

So there you have it! My first empties post and I hope it won’t be my last.

Summer Beauty Guide Part 5 – Beauty

Summer is coming and Beauty Snippets has compiled a Summer Beauty Guide to make the transition from stockings and pants to shorts and skirts easy.

Part 5, and the final part of the Summer Beauty Guide, consists of miscellaneous beauty products that will see you through Summer!

Summer Beauty Guide: Beauty

1. Luminsce Essential Body Renewal Cream ($65.95AUD/150ml, for stockists – contact (02) 8007 3116)*

Luminesce Essential Body Renewal

This should’ve been included in the the Summer Beauty Guide: Moisturise section so forgive me! This is a heavy duty body moisturise aimed at “boosting collagen formation, improve skin elasticity, and protect against the signs of premature ageing” (information from press release).

I love to use this right after a shower, before going to bed, and the next morning, voila – smooth and hydrated looking skin. Plus, the benefits! Anti-ageing? Why not!

Luminesce Essential Body Renewal

There was no distinct scent and after leaving the moisturiser to soak in for a couple of minutes, bed sheets and clothes aren’t stained and no greasy feeling left.

2. Bioderma Crealine H2O ($35.95AUD/250ml available at selected pharmacies {for locations click here} and at www.adorebeauty.com.au)*

Bioderma Crealine H2O

Bioderma is a recent introduction into the Australian beauty market and despite hearing all about its greatness amongst beauty bloggers and makeup artists, I never actually ordered it online. Not sure why, ha!

Summer parties means a face of makeup and coming home late. The last thing you want to do when coming home at 5am is to go through a full makeup removing routine. This is where Bioderma comes in. This amazing ‘water’ removes makeup easily and you don’t even need to wash your face after using it.

What I do before heading out for the night is make sure that this is next to my bed along with a couple of makeup remover pads so I don’t forget.

3. Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser (available at Laura Mercier counters at selected Myer and David Jones stores nationally and online at adorebeauty.com.au)

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser

Liquid ($59AUD/40ml)

Another well-deserved hype product. Sheer but buildable coverage, doesn’t cling to dry skin flakes, doesn’t rub off onto clothing and looks natural. It feels very light on as well so perfect for those occasions where you would wear foundation. Summer is just too hot and humid for me to wear any foundation so most days (well, more like 80% of the year), I don’t wear foundation or tinted moisturiser. But when there’s a special occasion, I whip out the foundation during Winter and this during Summer.

Creme Compact ($65AUD/7.5g)*

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser

A new addition to the already popular line is this creme compact. Great for travel and touch-ups! It’s the perfect size for when you need to put on makeup to head to that afterparty after swimming.

The compact comes with a mirror and sponge applicator which has a ‘wet’ feeling. This gives a nice flawless finish – great for people like me who cannot apply foundation and the like perfectly with just my fingers.

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser

Only issue is that even though it’s supposed to be matched to the existing 10 shades in the tinted moisturiser range, I found that this wasn’t really the case.

4. Swisspers Everything Aloe Balm ($10.99AUD/50ml, available at Priceline stores nationwide and selected pharmacies)*

Swisspers Aloe Everything Balm

It is what the name states – an ‘everything’ balm with aloe! It’s definitely one product that will be sitting very snuggly in my handbag this summer. Use it as a moisturiser for those times you forget to moisturise your arms and/or legs, sculpt your eyebrows into place, got sunburnt? Not a problem – use this to soothe your sunburn, and even use it as a cuticle and hand cream.

5. Clinique Even Better Eyes Dark Circle Corrector ($50AUD/10ml, available at Clinique counters nationwide and on Clinique’s website at clinique.com.au)*

Clinique Even Better Eyes Dark Circle Corrector

A yellow-tinted, lightweight eye cream that promises to lighten your dark undereye circles by 30% in 12 weeks. Summer is a time for beach parties and hanging out til the sun rises so to get your through your day, this eye cream is your best bet at hiding those circles. What it promises is to lighten and not to completely remove or hide thus being a very achievable claim.

The applicator is really a cooling massage tip which seriously feels awesome in the mornings. It definitely ‘wakes’ you up and is a godsend on those tired puffy eyes.

6. Nutrimetics nc Illuminating Stick ($25AUD currently on sale $19.90AUD/7.5g, available on the Nutrimetics website)*

Nutrimetics nc Illuminating Stick

When it comes to summer, my most favourite makeup product to use, apart from bronzers, are highlighters. Dab some here and there and when the light hits it, it looks so glowy and angelic. Sometimes, I like to use highlighters and bronzers and forget about the blush.

Nutrimetics nc Illuminating Stick

This illuminating stick from Nutrimetics is a pale white highlighter with some pink microshimmer. On first swipe, it’s sheer but it’s buildable. I prefer sheer highlighters as I find that with sheer highlighters, there’s a lesser chance of looking like an oilslick discoball.

7. Innoxa Skin Perfecting Foundation 5-in-1 BB cream ($24.95AUD/30ml, available at Priceline, Big W, Myer and selected pharmacies)*

Innoxa Skin Perfecting Foundation 5in1 BB Cream

Its five benefits are: balancing and correcting uneven skintone, brighten skin and reduce pigmentation, calm and soothe skin and reduce redness.

This is perfect for summer because:

– Slightly runny consistency and is light. It doesn’t feel as though I am wearing makeup.
– Easy to apply with fingers. Doesn’t dry too fast.
– Lasts a whole day in humid heat.
– No shine. Just a natural finish. No need to use powder.

The shade Sand matched my skin pretty well. I’m about an NC30ish in MAC, if that helps.
