Violet Box June 2013 Outer Packaging

Violet Box is a new beauty subscription box that is now available in Australia. They also offer a ‘rewards’ system which will allow the consumer to purchase full size products using the reward points earned via surveys, reviews and referrals etc on the Violet Box website. I was lucky to be sent their inaugural June box – the launch box!

In terms of price:

Bella Box – $15, 5-7 samples
Lust Have It – $19.95, 5-6 premium samples
Violet Box – $22.95, promising at least 4-6 samples

So as you can see, it’s a bit more expensive by a couple of dollars compared to Lust Have It and Bella Box. Read on if you want to know if it’s worth it?

When it arrives on your doorstep, it’s actually in a satchel. Rip open that satchel, and you get the white outerbox. Encased inside that white outerbox is a sleek matte black cardboard box with the Violet Box logo printed on the lid on the bottom right hand corner.

Lifting off the lid, there are three cards on the top resting on purple tissue paper.

Card 1 lists the contents of the box, along with descriptions and prices. Card 2 is an offer for $5 the RRP $30 of the Lash Control mascara in the Violet Box Beauty Shop. On the back is another offer – receive one month free subscription to Charlott Dodson TV, which is, from what I can gather, like yoga tv. Good for the cold weather as you can get your yoga fix without having to leave the house. Card 3 is all about the new CK One Color range. Also offers a complimentary 20 minute makeover at Myer counters.

Here is a look at card 1 which lists the box’s contents:

John Plunkett Glyco Peel 15ml $28.95 {full size}

This is a 25% glycolic acid PM exfoliator promising clear, refreshed and younger looking skin and the reduction of fine lines and surface discolouration. I am a bit scared to use it as I think 25% is quite high??

CK One Gloss Eyecolor in Pop 4g $25 {full size}

Ever since the CK One Color Cosmetics line launched, I’ve been itching to get my hands on it. The colour I received is Pop, a light sea green with gold shimmer. It’s sheer and quite glossy. I’ve never used an eye gloss before so I am looking forward to using it. Here’s a quick swatch –

Lash Control Clear Coat mascara and brow fix 8.87ml $25 {full size}

Most days, I opt for brow powder and a clear brow gel or mascara has always been on my list of things to buy {just never get around to it cos there are other more prettier things to buy haha} so if this works well, then the box itself would be worth the subscription value!

Special feature of this is that you squeeze the middle of the tube which controls how much product comes out of the wand!

Argania hair oil 5ml {sample size; 100ml for $34.99. Value = $1.75}

Can never have enough hair oils and it comes in a handy travel size.

Avene Gentle Gel cleanser 50ml {deluxe sample size; 200ml for $23.95. Value = ~$6}

I think I received the milk cleanser and toner in another beauty box so I now have a whole skincare routine hahaha. I’ve never tried Avene before so hopefully I get around to it one day.

The Gentle Gel cleanser is aimed at normal-combination sensitive skin and is supposed to cleanse and remove makeup. Sounds like a great multitasker.

Calvin Klein Sheer Beauty EDT 1.2ml {sample size; 50ml for $80/100ml for $120. Value = ~$1.70}

Violet Box June 2013 TOTAL value = $88.40

The thing with these subscription boxes is that it’s worth it only if the products are of use to you. Seeing as I would use at least 4 out of 6 products in this box AND the fact that half of the products are full size, I am not disappointed. However, for a launch box, it’s not WOW either.

If you are contemplating on signing up, I would keep an eye out for the next box and see what the quality is like. If Violet Box can maintain the quality of the samples then I believe they would survive in the market.
