What’s In My Travel Bag – Hong Kong and Singapore Version

Firstly, I’d like to apologise for the lack of posts. I went on a whirlwind trip to Singapore and Hong Kong for 10 days and didn’t have time to schedule posts! But now I’m back :)

I love seeing what skincare, beauty, cosmetic products people take with them on their holidays. This was what I brought with me:

In my carry-on:

Lanolips – couldn’t find my 101 Ointment in time for this trip, so I opted for the lip balm to prevent my lips from drying out.
Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Hand Cream – this is a super intensive hand cream that’s great to combat the dryness that comes with the recycled airplane air. It gets absorbed quickly into my skin and doesn’t leave a greasy mess behind.
Sheet Mask – we all know how drying the air can be on the plane so a face mask always helps to keep my face hydrated. I like to travel with a sheet mask (or two if it’s a long haul flight) and put it on once I get settled in.
Dermalogica Ultrasoothing Eye Serum – once I remove the sheet mask, I apply some eye cream and moisturise and off to sleep I go! Right before landing, I’ll apply a bit more to brighten up my eyes.
Kora Organics Energising Citrus Mist – whenever my skin is feeling a bit dry and tight, I’ll spray this mist. It’s refreshing and brightens up my skin instantly.
Eyedrops – the dry air irritates my eyes so eye drops are an essential!
Hand sanitiser – cos germs everywhere.

What I actually packed for 10 days in locations with high humidity. On holidays, I tend to wear as little makeup as possible as I like to use that time to go exploring!

Cleanser – Bioderma Sebium Purifying Foaming Gel. I’ve used this before and I know it works well with my skin so packed a sample size one on the trip to use it up!
Exfoliator – Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant. This is my HG exfoliator. It’s so gentle but works effectively.
Toner – Kora Organics Energising Citrus Mist. Multi-tasking :)
Moisturiser – Nivea Q10 Day Cream. My favourite everyday moisturiser which works well as a base as well.
Makeup remover – Bioderma Sebium Purifying Cleansing Micelle Solution*. Again, another HG. My go-to makeup remover! Feels like water but removes EVERY trace of makeup.
Night cream – Nivea Q10 Night Cream. Not greasy, and wake up with soft and hydrated skin. Winning.
Eye cream – Dermalogica Ultrasoothing Eye Serum*. Gentle and keeps the eye area moisturised.
Serum – Hydraluron*. The different climate caused havoc with my skin for a bit and Hydraluron helped keep it moisturised and soft.

Clarins BB Skin Perfecting Cream* – I’ve used this so much and can’t believe I haven’t written a review on it yet. It’s one of my HG products because it provides medium coverage yet feels so light on the skin.
Australis ACONTOUR* – All about that contour game!
NARS Luster blush and theBalm Frat Boy – I opted for a dusty rose and peachy blush as they seem to be the most flattering on my skintone.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow – Again, another HG. Perfect brows that stay put in the humid!
NARS Creamy Radiant Concealer – Lack of sleep meant heavy eye bags and I knew that this NARS concealer had its work cut out. Did not disappoint!
Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes eyeliner – Didn’t pack any eyeshadows with me so for some definition, I packed this. Long-lasting and does not smudge.
Benefit They’re Real mascara – Knowing that it was the Summer in Hong Kong and Singapore, I knew I had to pack some waterproof, hard to remove with water products to make it through the trip. This Benefit mascara is one of my favourites. It holds a curl well and even has its own remover.
Edward Bess Ultra Slick lipstick in Night Romance, Bite Beauty Sucre matte cream lip crayon and NARS Velvet Matte lip pencil in Dragon Girl – opted for one everyday, one for night and one which can multitask for any occasion.
Batiste Dry Shampoo – ok, so technically not a makeup product but a beauty product nonetheless and one I cannot live without!

Winter Favourites 2014

A month into Spring and I thought I’d compile a list of my Winter essentials and favourites which has seen me through another Winter. Good for me to refer back to for future reference, ya know? And because I’m a lagger.

Winter Favourites

Winter Favourites

Footcare 100% Pure Lambswool Insoles ($5.29 –  Priceline, Coles, Woolworths, Kmart, Big W)*

This Winter, I found that even though I was living in boots and thick socks, my feet were still left freezing! Was it a ridiculously cold Winter this year? Anyway, thank goodness for these 100% pure lambswool insoles. These made sure my feet were warm and snuggly even on the coldest of Winter nights.

Pedi-Sox* ($7-11USD – Pedi-Sox)

Winter means dry skin and cold feet! So what do you do when you need to have a pedicure? Pedi-Sox! These are toeless pedicure socks you slip on before you paint the toes, but after you apply your moisturiser so it can soak in and you’re left with soft feet! I don’t know what I did before I had these! They are awesome – your toes are still nicely painted during Winter but they’re not freezing whilst drying!

They say you could use these at nail salons as well and just wear them out once your nails are painted – I haven’t tried this yet. They have so many different designs as well so I’m sure you will find a design to suit your taste.

Quick Fix Facials* ($8.95 – Woolworths)

Quick Fix Facials offer three wonder masks aimed at combating everyday skin issues. Leave each mask on for about 10-15 minutes and then wipe away with a damp cloth for radiant skin.

Mega Moisture Gel Mask
Targeted at thirsty, parched dry skin, this mask left my skin feeling hydrated and soft on those really pesky Winter days where no amount of moisturiser was going to hide those dry flakes.

Anti-Blemish Mud Mask
Mud masks are one of my favourite kinds of face masks. Mud masks, and in particular this one, targets common skincare concerns such as excess oil and blemishes and they work great for my skin type – combinational. Skin was left glowy and clean.

Exfoliating Scrub Mask
Whenever my skin feels like it is clogged, I go straight to this mask. It’s got pink rose clay which helps to really cleanse your skin and decongest the troublesome skin.

Lush Lemony Flutter cuticle butter ($16.50 – Lush)

As soon as the weather cools, my cuticles go cray cray. Lemony Flutter is my HG. After one application overnight, my cuticles are tamed and look much more socially acceptable. The price may seem steep but seriously, a little goes a long way. Plus you can also use it on your heels, elbows and even toes. Multi-purpose product, I like. Only con is that it solidifies when it’s cold so it’s a bit hard to apply when the nights are freezing!

Soap & Glory Hand Food ($5-$11 – Mecca Cosmetica)

My hands are generally quite dry and wrinkly – like a senior’s hands haha They’re even worse in Winter! So I’m constantly carrying around hand cream. This Winter, my favourite was the Soap & Glory Hand Food. I picked this up in Malaysia last year and only opened it this year #hoarderproblems It’s non-greasy and smells like marshmallows and kept the wrinkles at bay.

AV Lip Balms* ($13.59 for lip balm tube; $22.68 for lip balm pot)

An interesting fact I never knew – 90% of all adults will have been exposed to the herpes simplex virus by the time they’re 40-50 years old. So pretty much, I’ll just assume nearly everyone has the virus. AV Lip Balms are antiviral lip balms containing the Melissa essential oil (10%, strongest concentration possible without the burning sensation), which is known to reduce cold sores and its breakouts, and in some rare cases, even kill the virus.

So there’s this oil that can prevent cold sores and yet why is it not widely available in a lot of products? Well, it is because the average price of the oil is about $15 per gram!

Kylie from AV Lip Balms has come up with a natural lip balm containing the Melissa oil to keep chapped lips and cold sore breakouts at bay.

I love love this lip balm. Winter always, and I mean always, mean dry chapped lips for me. The AV Lip Balm contains moisturising ingredients such as cocoa butter, coconut oil and beeswax which means my lips are always in tip top condition. It keeps the dry lips at bay but also, at the same time, keeping the cold sore virus at bay too. Best of both worlds.

Lush Lip Scrubs ($9.95 – Lush)

Nothing quite like a Lush lip scrub to keep your lips soft and kissable. So quick and easy to use too – simply rub the exfoliating castor sugar over your lips and wipe off, or if you’re lazy, lick it off! It works immediately and all three flavours I have all taste amazing 😛

Lanolips 101 Ointment* ($17.95 – Lanolips)

Once I exfoliate my lips, I like to follow up with a heavy duty lip balm. My go to is Lanolips 101 Ointment – my favourite multitasker! I actually had this on me at all times as I love using it as cuticle cream and around the nose when it was chaffed from all the sniffling.

So there you have it – my Winter favourites for 2014! Let me know if there are other products I should be checking out for next Winter 😉
