Review: Violet Box April 2015

Violet Box April 2015

Violet Box April 2015

Lonvitalite C2 Collagen Protein Wrinkle Removing Mask $9.95
As you all know by now, I LOVE face masks and this promises to smooth out lines, reinforce skin growth & enhance skin moisture.

Tini Beauty Eye Shadow (Pearl Fizz) by Rob Scheppy $16
Firstly, this is not the first time I have received an eyeshadow (or powder product) from Violet Box that has shattered in transit. This annoys me as I feel like these fragile products should be packaged just a little bit better. If I was a paying subscriber I would be very annoyed as shattered products = wasted time trying to put them back together or wasted money because I’d probably just throw it out as I can’t be bothered putting it back.

Pearl Fizz is a warm toned light champagne shade. It looks like it would have been a nice brow bone or all over lid shade. But I’m honestly too lazy to put it back together so I’m just going to bin it.

Evelyn Iona Natural and Organic Concealer (Flawless) $24.99
I’m  a bit unsure about this; it contains a lot of “oil” ingredients – coconut, jojoba and vitamin e. It has a lot of “slip” to it so I really am interested in trying this to see how long it’ll last!

Urban Skincare Co. Daily Hand & Body Cleanser ~$1.89 ($26.95/500ml)
Described as an alternative to soap, this hand & body cleanser smells like oranges & is supposed to be gentle enough to remove everyday dirt & grime without remove the lipid barrier.

Lipsi Cosmetics Aphrodite Powder ~$7.24 ($38/21g)
A finishing powder that absorbs excess oil. Ever since I returned from my holiday in the USA, my skin has gone oil crazy! So again, I am interested in trying this and seeing how well it can control the oil situation on my face.

Transformulas Eye Lifting Gel $49
Transformulas FaceContour & Tightening Creme $59
Satchet samples? Really? For what these products promise, I don’t think satchet samples would be enough to see results. One of the satchets just fills like it’s full of air. I have used other Transformulas products before and they have yielded good results so fingers crossed?

This month’s box was slightly disappointing. I understand there were some issues regarding a product but it just felt like the box was packed in a huge rush. Broken products, missing product card. Just not on the ball there, Violet Box. I think this may be the first box where it’s mostly made up of samples and deluxe samples with only one full size product (the eyeshadow) but even with the full size product, I can’t even use it because it’s shattered!

In terms of value, April’s box was very disappointing for me. This is the first box where I have been left disappointed. The broken eyeshadow detracts from the value of the box as I cannot use it, The lack of sizes noted on the samples mean that even just a generous estimate, the value of the box is close to or just a bit more than the monthly subscription fee.

Subscription boxes are available from $22.95/month. For more information on Violet Box, check out their website here.

Review: Violet Box January 2015

If you’ve noticed, there was no review for December’s Violet Box cos I think it went for a walkabout during the holiday rush.

Violet Box January 2015

Violet Box January 2015

Appropriately themed “New year, new you” for the first box of 2015, the items included in January’s box:

Violet Box January 2015

Violet Box January 2015

Real Chemistry Luminous 3-Minute Peel $6.70/5ml ($67/50ml)
This is a protein peel promising “instantly smoother,  brighter and softer skin” . I find that you have to work quickly with these face peels as they tend to react pretty much instantly with the dead skin. I’m looking forward to trying this gel peeling mask!

Lonvitalite 24K Active Gold Yulan Eye Mask $5.19 ($25.95/5 pack)
Whenever my eyes feel swollen, I always love placing an eye mask on them. This one by Lonvitalite looks luxe and will be good to reduce the swelling.

The Cosmetic Kitchen Raw Chocolate Clay Mask $24.95/50g

The Cosmetic Kitchen Raw Chocolate Clay Mask $24.95/50g

The Cosmetic Kitchen Raw Chocolate Clay Mask $24.95/50g

This one looks interesting! Raw chocolate clay mask. As you all know by now, my favourite face masks are clay masks. This one by the Cosmetic Kitchen can be used as is – just add water and apply. Or there is a little receipt on the packet to make a radiant choc avocado mask. How interesting!

Emite Make Up Precision Eye Pencil $24.95
Received this in the shade Spir, an off-white shade which would be good for lining either the inner corner or bottom waterline to brighten up your eyes. The formula feels soft and didn’t require me to drag it onto my skin.

Mellow Cosmetic Blush $14
A simple name of “Pink”, this is a sheer but buildable pink blush with yellow undertones. It doesn’t have any shimmer or glitter but isn’t quite matte in finish. Something I would change would be the packaging. It was difficult enough to open the cardboard packaging and remove the blush but it was even harder to flip the lid!

I liked that for a “new year, new you” box, they included a variety of masks. Janauary’s Violet Box included 3 full sized products, 2 samples and 4 brands I hadn’t heard of.

Review: Lust Have It! November 2013

Lust Have It! November 2013

Lust Have It! November 2013

November’s Lust Have It! box was jampacked with lots of goodies, with my favourite beign the Benefit They’re Real mascara (my HG!).

Moving on from my excitement .. November’s Lust Have It! contained…

Lust Have It! November 2013

Lust Have It! November 2013

Exclusive offers – Hello Fresh $30 gift card, free Davroe Rebuilder Protein Reconstructor 50ml ($14.95) when purchasing a Davroe Luxe Leave In Masque 200g and a complimentary eye and brow make-upper.

As for the actual samples, we’ve got…

Mary Kay Brow Definer Pencil in Soft Black $17/1.13g

This is in Soft Black but it seems more like a dark brown to me. The name aside, the colour is a nice match and I am still on the hunt for the perfect brow shade and product so looking forward to trying this out.

Lust Have It! November 2013

Lust Have It! November 2013 – Mary Kay Brow Definer Pencil $17/1.13g

Mary Kay Soothing Foot Balm (~$9.50/85g)

This is actually part of a Mary Kay Pedicure Set (limited edition) that retails for $38. With 4 products in the set, it makes each product $9.50 which is cheap! I apply this before bed and then wear socks (unless it’s a ridiculously hot night) and next morning, I wake up with soft feet :) It has a slightly natural scent but nothing too offensive.

Mary Kay Thinking of You EDP  sample towelettes

It smells heavily of florals and just too strong for me..

Benefit They’re Real! mascara ($38/8.5ml = ~$13.41/3ml sample)

As mentioned above, this is my HG mascara. This sample size is great for taking on overnight/weekend trips. It makes my lashes long and luscious, holds a curl and my lashes aren’t crunchy. Win, win, win!

Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Gentle Exfoliating Facial Scrub ($9.99/150ml = ~$1/15ml sample)

Great size for travel. I’ll probably chuck this into my ‘travel samples’ stash haha

Aveda Hydrating Creme ($89.95/50ml) and Purifying Gel Cleanser ($54.95/150ml) = ~$15.15 for 2 x 7ml samples

Same as above; good size for travel. Have never used Aveda products so it’s a good size to try and see if I like it.

Lonvitalite C3 Red Wine Mask ($32/5 pack = $6.40)

Have never tried this brand of face masks before so will report back. I am addicted to face masks!

Davroe Colour Senses Ends Repair ($9.95/50ml)

I’ve never heard of Davroe but wow, cheap hair products here I come. Promises to seal split ends and especially formulated for colour treated hair – words that suck me right in!

With a total of $72.41, this month’s box contained a wide variety of samples in both full size and sample sizes.

Lust Have It is a monthly beauty subscription box costing $19.95/month.
