Christmas Look #1 – Red Lips

When it comes to Christmas, my default look is always a red lip.

This look features a bright red lip with a very basic eye look. I will be posting look #2 soon which switches up the lip colour but still the same eye look.

Review: Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 Hour Eyeshadow in Bold Gold (#43)

Aside from the Revlon lip butters, I don’t think I’ve seen a drugstore product create so much hype amongst beauty bloggers.

These are said to be a great dupe for MAC paint pots. I’m quite fond of MAC paint pots so I was curious.

Packaging

The eye tattoos come packaged in sturdy glass jars with a plastic screw on lid.

The lid is black with the color name but if you turn it upside down, it’s clear so you can actually see the colour.

Product

Bold Gold is a dirty medium shimmery gold. Upon first swatch, it was so shimmery and sheer – I was disappointed. However, it is buildable so I just kept packing on the layers and it took about 3 layers to get it to a more pigmented swatch.

It dries down to a slight metallic glowy finish.

The best thing about any kind of cream eyeshadow is that they are so quick and easy to use. I use my fingers to apply straight onto my lids and in about 30 seconds, my eyes are done. When I have a bit more time, I will then go onto applying powder eyeshadow, liner, mascara etc

As for wear time, I didn’t test it for 24 hours, so I can’t prove or disprove that claim. However, I did have it on for 16 hours and there was not a crease in sight. This was just Bold Gold applied straight onto my lids, with MAC Satin Taupe eyeshadow over the top. No other additional eye primer! Which is impressive as I have really oily lids and eye primers are my life savers.

Purchase

Surprisingly, these are not that crazily marked up as expected. I purchased mine for $10.15AUD/4g at Priceline during a promotion but the RRP for them is $11.95AUD. Not too bad considering I was expecting them to be about $20AUD.

They’re also available at Target, K-Mart, Big W and selected pharmacies.

Overall, these are a great alternative to MAC paint pots which are 1g more but cost $35AUD/$17.50US so triple the Aussie price! I hope Maybelline brings more neutrals to the range similar to MAC Bare Study, Groundwork etc
