Review: Vaniday

Vanity

Vaniday

A new beauty app, Vaniday, is making waves in the beauty sphere. It is a booking app and site allowing you to book your next beauty appointment in just a few clicks.   In Melbourne alone, there are over 200 salons, so you will definitely find a salon with your desired beauty treatment. The site is very easy to use – simply search up what beauty service you require and your location. Currently, the majority of the listed salons are located in the CBD and surrounding suburbs. I was able to quickly search for a facial in my suburb and booked myself in for a Saturday appointment. Side note – if you have a regular salon that’s on Vaniday, you can also select your preferred nail technician, therapist etc as well.

My appointment was booked for 29 October 2016 at 11:00am at Luella Beauty Bar. The location was conveniently located with ample parking around. I didn’t have any issues locating Luella Beauty Bar. My beauty therapist, Belle, was incredibly knowledgeable and tailored my Quick Fix Facial to suit my skin concerns. It was an incredibly relaxing facial which also included a neck and head massage. Luella Beauty Bar stocks and uses Skeyndor products. Despite me never having heard of the brand before, the results from my facial were amazing. I left Luella Beauty Bar with hydrated and plump skin. At the end of the facial, Belle was never pushy with selling me Skeyndor products or about making another appointment. However, I was so impressed with Belle and Luella Beauty Bar, I booked another facial for two weeks later. I would definitely recommend Luella Beauty Bar for your next facial appointment. Luella Beauty Bar also specialises in spray tans so with summer coming up and the party season, definitely check them out.

If you are interested in booking an appointment, you can download the app, or visit Vaniday’s website – here. I also like the fact that some stores accept payment via card online at the time of the booking. This ensures a quick and easy appointment. Vaniday also offers a great loyalty program where you get 10% of the value of your appointment back and you can redeem it for your next beauty appointment. Score!

Review: Lush Toothy Tabs

Lush Toothy Tabs are solid toothpastes. Whaaaat? Yep. Solid, powdered toothpaste! The Toothy Tabs contain no synthetic preservatives, and are made from kaolin clay, baking soda and essential oils.

Lush Toothy Tabs used to come in a box which made them look like mints. They recently underwent a makeover and now come in a flip top bottle. The original Toothy Tab is Dirty but during the makeover, Lush also added an additional six flavours to the line: Sparkle, Miles of Smiles, Boom, Bling, Oral Pleasure and Limelight.

Lush Toothy Tabs

Lush Toothy Tabs

I received the Toothy Tabs in Dirty, Bling! and Oral Pleasure. Dirty contains spearmint and neroli essential oils; Bling! Toothy Tabs are dusted with edible gold luster and has refreshing citrus flavor from Brazilian orange oil and frankincense oil; and Oral Pleasure has a fruity flavour thanks to the passion fruit, and electric daisies.

My favourite is the Oral Pleasure. It takes a while to get used to the flavour but once you do, my god. It tastes so much better than normal toothpaste.

To use these Toothy Tabs, you just pop one in your mouth, nibble it then brush. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it foamed up. Each bottle contains about 120 tabs.

These are super travel-friendly and definitely something I bring along with me on my quick trips back home. It will also make a welcome addition to the international holidays because it doesn’t count towards the carry-on liquid allowance!

One thing to note is that the Lush Toothy Tabs do not contain fluoride and for those who do not get fluoride from other sources (mouthwash, tap water etc), then you won’t be able to use these 100% of the time.

These retail for $10.95AUD and you can grab the Toothy Tabs at any Lush store or online.

Brand Focus: Nudestix

Nudestix

Nudestix

Nudestix is a brand that is all about multi-tasking, easy to use products. Their brand motto is #gonudebutbetter.

I have been so lucky to have met the face behind the brand twice now and each time, I am just in awe at how passionate and involved Taylor and Ally are with Nudestix.

I was first introducted to Nudestix last year at a Sephora brands showcase. I walked away with 4 different shades of their Metallic Eye Color Pencils and a Brow Stylus.

Nudestix is all about the makeup pencils. It is legit makeup pencil errthang! Sure, makeup brands were all about the lip crayons a year ago but Nudestix has stepped it up and they have not only the eye and lip pencils we usually see but also, a skincare pencil range. Wut? Yep. There’s a Sculpting Pencil, which is dual-ended to contour and highlight with, and a Skin Pencil range one for blurring, cleaning up, mattify and moisturise.

They all come in a sleek black metal tin with an accompanying mirror on the inside of the lid and their own sharpener. This makes them very travel friendly as you can pack all the pencils you need just in one tin!

First up, I will be discussing the Magentic Eye Color Pencils ($35AUD)  – I have this in the shades: Angel, Spirit, Moon, Lilith, Gilt and Spirit.

Nudestix magnetic eye pencils in Moon, Angel, Lilith, Gilt, Spirit; eye pencil in Bronze

Nudestix magnetic eye pencils in Moon, Angel, Lilith, Gilt, Spirit; eye pencil in Bronze

I generally have oily lids and usually don’t go without an eyelid primer. However, one day, I forgot my trusty eyelid primer and only had these on me. I applied it anyway and 10 hours later, my lids are still looking fresh AF. There was no creasing to be seen! This is exciting news for my oily lids and is a testament as to how long wearing the Magnetic Eye Color Pencils are.

The Magnetic Eye Color Pencils glide on so easily so you can be sure there is no eyelid tugging happening. In addition to this, the colour payoff is even and intense.

I also have the Eye Pencil ($34AUD) in Bronze. This is not as long-lasting as the Magentic Eye Color Pencils above nor is it as intense. This gives me a smooth, satin finish and comes with a smudger, so is my go-to for a quick smokey eye.

Moving onto the Brow Stylus ($34AUD) – this is a waterproof, 2-in-1, triangled tip eyebrow pencil. I received the shade Brown but found there was too much of a red undertone for me to pull it off. Shade aside, it was very easy to use. It glides on easily and the triangled tip definitely helped in creating hair-like strokes. The gel on the other end is also coloured and the size is perfect for brushing those brow hairs into place.

Nudestix eyebrow stylus pencil and gel in brown

Ahh, now my favourites – the Intense Matte Lip + Cheek Pencils ($39AUD). I have this in Royal, a neutral red and Belle, a perfect mix of pink and brown.

Nudestix intense matte lip and cheek pencil swatches: Belle and Royal

These are touted to be waterproof, kiss-proof and non-feathering for up to 6 hours. Despite being a matte finish, these are very soft, creamy and not drying at all. You can use this to colour in your lips and swipe onto your apples and blend for some quick cheek colour.

Last, but not least, their Blur ($38AUD) pencil. This is an instant line and pore filler to Give the appearance of smooth and flawless skin. I like to use this on my lips before applying matte lipsticks so they don’t settle into any fine lines.

So there you have it – a quick introduction to Nudestix and my favourite products from them. You can purchase them from Sephora, in store and online.

Review: Rimmel Kate Sculpting & Highlighting Kit

Designed by Kate Moss, the Sculpting & Highlighting kit is one of the recent offerings from the Rimmel brand. It contains three complimentary shades designed to highlight, sculpt and define (blush). From the Rimmel London website, only one shade seems to be available in Australia – Coral Glow – but from various overseas beauty blogs, I can see that it is available in 3 different shades overseas.

Packaging…ok, it looks like nothing special, being plastic and all, but the rose gold makes for a nice touch.

For my medium to olive skintone, this Coral Glow is quite complimentary. The highlight shade is a soft beige-champagne with subtle shimmer. The contour/bronzer shade is quite warm with gold shimmer but it’s not too chunky so works well as a contour or bronzer. The blush is a soft peachy-pink coral which gives my tanned skin a slight hint of colour.

Rimmel Kate Sculpting & Highlighting kit ($16.95)

Rimmel Kate Sculpting & Highlighting kit ($16.95)

This palette is more suited to fair to medium skin but it does give me a nice natural look for everyday use. A bit of a warning though – when I am picking up the product with my blush, there’s some fallout. You can actually see a bit of the powdery-ness (not a word but you know….) in the swatch pic above with the bronzer/contour shade. Not too much but definitely something to be aware of. In terms of lasting power, the blush disappears throughout the day but the bronzer/contour shade lasted a full day of wear – same with the highlighter.

At the moment, Coral Glow seems to be the only shade available in Australia. Here’s hoping the other two shades will arrive on our shores soon!

You can pick this up for $16.95 at Priceline, Priceline Pharmacy, Target, Kmart, BIG W, selected pharmacies and selected Coles and Woolworths.

Review: Elizabeth Arden Grand Entrance mascara and Flawless Start Instant Perfecting Primer

About a month ago, I was very lucky to be invited to the launch of Elizabeth Arden’s Grand Entrance mascara and the Flawless Start Instant Perfecting Primer.

Elizabeth Arden Flawless Start Instant Perfecting Primer and Grand Entrance Mascara

Elizabeth Arden Flawless Start Instant Perfecting Primer and Grand Entrance Mascara

The Grand Entrance mascara delivers an 80% increase in lash length and volume and a whopping 162% increase in curl. This newbie from Elizabeth Arden is glossy, long-wearing and water-resistant.
The 3-in-1 triangular brush is quite different to my usual mascara brushes but this technology means my lashes are individually coated and separated without clumping and flaking.

Elizabeth Arden Grand Entrance Mascara

Elizabeth Arden Grand Entrance Mascara

I have trialed this mascara for the last month and I definitely see such a huge difference. My lashes are longer, darker and the mascara holds a curl very well. At the end of the day, my lashes are still curled! This is no easy feat with my stubborn, straight lashes. I like using this mascara for everyday – it provides me with the lengthening and darkness I look for in an everyday mascara without giving me spider lashes. Once applied, I can go about my day without worrying about it flaking or smudging.

The Elizabeth Arden Grand Entrance Mascara is available in two shades – Stunning Black and Stunning Brown. You can grab this at all Elizabeth Arden counters – to find your nearest stockist, you can contact 1800 015 500. Available in .3oz, this will set you back $42.00AUD.

Until recently, I never used a primer under my make up. However, I have learnt the error of my ways and will never skip a primer again. I actually have a post coming up about my favourite primers – stay tuned.

The Elizabeth Arden Flawless Start Instant Perfecting Primer is a silky, lightweight primer that is perfect for all skin tones. The Flawless Start Perfecting Primer smoothes any uneven skin texture, and minimises the appearance of pores, fine lines and wrinkles. This is all thanks to the triple blurring complex with light-diffusing technology. The primer is oil-free and non-comedogenic. Whilst it is silcone-based, the Flawless Start Perfecting Primer leaves my skin with a smooth finish and imparts a very nice glow.

Elizabeth Arden Flawless Start Instant Perfecting Primer

Elizabeth Arden Flawless Start Instant Perfecting Primer

When it comes out of the tube, its beige in colour with a peachy-pink tint but once applied and blended, there’s no distinct colour. The texture is like a mousse but blends easily enough and really turns my skin into the perfect canvas. I have also used the primer on its own as well on my “no makeup” makeup days. It smoothes out my skin whilst controlling my oil skin throughout the day.

After a full day of wear, my makeup is still in tact with minimal oil on my T-zone. I had no need to do my usual touch-ups through the day. Winner winner, chicken dinner!

Again, this is now available at all Elizabeth Arden counters for $48AUD/30ml.

Review: Natralus Natural Paw Paw Lip Butters in Coconut, Honey and Vanilla, and Strawberry

Natralus Natural Paw Paw Lip Butter $5.75

Natralus Natural Paw Paw Lip Butter $5.75

A few months ago, I was very lucky to receive a lovely package from Natralus containing their new Paw Paw Lip Butters in three flavours – coconut, honey and vanilla, and strawberry.

As the weather changes, my flaky and dry lips are in need of some pampering. These Natralus Natural Paw Paw Lip Butters contain ingredients such as shea butter and vitamin E to ensure smooth, protect and restore your lips. In addition, these lip butters contain 51mg per gram of Australian organic Papaya!

Natralus Natural Paw Paw Lip Butter $5.75

Natralus Natural Paw Paw Lip Butter $5.75

The lip butters go on smoothly and smell great! There’s no stickiness, just lightweight shine. It does apply thickly but  this does mean that the product will last a long time on you lips. The Natural Paw Paw Lip Butters are naturally free from petrochemicals, petroleum jelly, parabens, silicones, mineral oil, and colour – which is great news as you don’t want to be putting chemicals on your lips. I apply this prior to applying my lipstick, before bed at night, and on no make up days.

I actually gave one to my mother as she loves applying paw paw ointment on her chapped lips and these are much better than the chemical-laden paw paw ointment she was using :)

These come in 10g tubes for only $5.75 from your local Woolworths or selected pharmacies.

Review: DARE Temporary Hair Colour

Whilst growing out my dyed blonde hair, I still had an itch to dye my hair. To scratch this itch, I got my hands on some DARE Temporary Hair Colours in Neon Sherbert and Forbidden Grape. I’ve always been quite responsible in dying my hair “normal”, work-appropriate colours but seeing as I will probably never dye my hair again, I wanted to try some crazy colours and these temporary ones by DARE was perfect for that occasion.

20150719_152242

The process was very easy – wash my hair, skip conditioner, dry my hair then apply and comb through. The instructions says to wait for 30 minutes, but just to be safe, I opted for 45 minutes. Once the process time was up, I just rinsed it with some warm water.

DARE Temporary Hair Colour in Forbidden Grape

DARE Temporary Hair Colour in Forbidden Grape

Forbidden Grape turned out very subtly in my hair even though my hair has been lightened by bleach. It was noticeable in the light but still quite dark in indirect lighting.

Neon Sherbet, however, turned out very well! I loved it. I enjoyed having pink hair for a while.

DARE Temporary Hair Colour in Neon Sherbet

DARE Temporary Hair Colour in Neon Sherbet

The colours slowly wash out – taking about 15 washes to completely leave your hair. A word of warning with Forbidden Grape, due to the purple tone, I think it overprocessed my blonde and I started getting hints of green slowly coming through. As I was just colouring my ends, each bottle gave me two uses!

If you’re looking for some fun colours for your hair that washes out, have a look at the DARE Temporary Hair Colour range. Each 150ml bottle is $19.95 at Hairhouse Warehouse.

Product launch: Manicare x Liz Kelsh Next Generation brushes

Manicare Next Generation brushes

Manicare Next Generation brushes

Last week, I was lucky enough to accompany Livia as her plus one to the Manicare x Liz Kelsh makeup brushes launch at Ceru.

In between sips of champagne and bites of chicken satay sticks, I got the chance to check out the new brushes and have a play with them.

In collaboration with celebrity makeup artist, Liz Kelsh, Manicare has released 10 brushes with an affordable price tag to match – none are over $20!

Manicare Next Generation brushes

Manicare Next Generation brushes

The brushes launched are:

Manicare Next Generation brushes

Manicare Next Generation brushes

FOUNDATION BRUSH F#10 (RRP $16.95) – With a tapered finish, this allows for precise application of foundation especially around your nose and eyes. The brushes aren’t stiff which really helps it get into the tiny crevices on the face.

STIPPLING BRUSH F#11 (RRP $16.95) – a great duo-fiber brush for giving you that airbrushed look. As I don’t use foundation often, I love using stippling brushes when applying cream blush – it softens the look and gives a smooth, “glow from within” look.

POWDER BRUSH #F12 (RRP $15.95) – a great size for applying powder as a finishing touch.

BRONZING BRUSH #F13 (RRP $19.95) – this a dense brush which covers a large space great for bronzing your face quickly and even over the body.

CONTOURING BLUSH BRUSH F#14 (RRP $14.95) – angled with soft edges, this fits perfectly into the cheek hollows to get your contour on point. The angled brush also allows for precision blush application as well. And add to that – Liz showed us that we could flip it around and use the thinner end of the angled brush to apply highlight. Multitasking at its best!

BLENDING BRUSH E#10 (RRP $10.95) – an essential brush in any beauty arsenal, this blending brush is super soft and makes blending eyeshadow a breeze.

CONTOURING SHADOW BRUSH E#11 (RRP $11.95) – this has a slanted brush head making it easy to apply eyeshadow to your crease. As it is a bit dense, it picks up just the right amount of eyeshadow for blending.

Manicare Next Generation brushes

Manicare Next Generation brushes

BROW/EYE DEFINING BRUSH #E12 (RRP $10.95) – Made from synthetic fibres, this slanted brush is great for a soft look for filling in your brows. This would be a great starter brush for beginners at filling in brows. It also works well as an eyeliner brush – use a gel eyeliner for the best results.

SMUDGE BRUSH E#13 (RRP $10.95) – A great brush for a smokey eye look. It applies shadow easily to the bottom lash line for a “lived in” eyeliner look. Alternatively, I like to use this brush to smudge out eyeliner on the top lid. The brush hairs are dense so it makes smudging easy.

LASH/BROW BRUSH E#14 (RRP $10.95) – Another essential brush, in my opinion. The brow brush is great to brush those unruly brow hairs into place before filling them in and setting them with clear brow gel.No matter what mascara I use, my lashes always end up looking clumpy after application so a lash separator is always required to finish off my look.

The brushes feature lightweight handles, improved bristles, tapered ferrules and a modern design – matte black handles and silver ferrules.

Liz Kelsh used the brushes and demonstrated a 90’s bronzed supermodel look. Her favourite brush is the eye blending brush. Liz believes this is a must have brush to take your eye make up to the next level. I loved the fact that Liz used the contouring blush brush for two purposes – to contour and highlight!

Manicare Next Generation brushes

Manicare Next Generation brushes

These brushes are ideal for those starting their brush wardrobe, or for travel. The handles are short making it easier to get closer to the mirror for any detailed eye or face work. They will be making a home in my make up bag for travel!

Available this week from 1 April 2916 at Priceline, Target and Big W stores – ch-ch-check it out gaiz.

Review: Sleek MakeUP Solstice Highlighting Palette

Sleek has jumped onto the highlighting and strobing bandwagon and has added this little beauty to their line, the Solstice Palette ($14USD). I am a highlighter addict and when this palette showed on my doorstep, I was giddy with excitement!

Sleek MakeUP Solstice Highlighting Palette ($14USD)

Sleek MakeUP Solstice Highlighting Palette ($14USD)

It looks so luxurious with the gold packaging, but it is still light as a result of the plastic packaging. Inside, you get four different highlighters, a brush and a mirror – yasss! I haven’t tried the brush itself as it seems a little too dense for my liking. I like using a fan brush to apply my highlighters. The finishes of the highlighters also vary from baked powders to cream. The four shades are:

  1. Ecliptic – bronze cream
  2. Hemisphere – cool toned lavendar baked powder
  3. Subsolar – champagne powder
  4. Equinox –  rose gold powder
Sleek MakeUP Solstice Highlighting Palette ($14USD)

Sleek MakeUP Solstice Highlighting Palette ($14USD)

For a drugstore product, this is really worth its value. The pigmentation is insane and you really only need a little bit of product. If you’re confused as to how and what you should use each powder for, fear not, Sleek has provided instructions on the back of the box!

Subsolar provides the most beautiful glow and gives me a “lit from within” look – my favourite. For the price, this Sleek MakeUp Solstice Palette is a great product for beginners to strobing and the shades suit all skintones. The compact packaging makes it ideal for travelling and on the go.

This has become one of my mostly reached make up product and I definitely recommend you take a look and swatch when you see it.

You can purchase this gorgeous palette from Sleek MakeUP’s website for $14.99USD (+shipping).
