Priceline 40% off skincare, suncare and tanning sale recommendations

Hellllooooo internet world.

Long time no blog. Very long time. Apologies. Life got in the way and didn’t have time to blog.

Well, never fear. I am back! And for my first post back, I thought I’d write about something easy. Priceline currently has their infamous 40% off sale. The sale applies to all skincare, suncare and tanning products until Friday.

Not like you all need help when it comes to sales but these are my picks – especially if you have dehydrated combination skin like me!

Priceline 40% off skincare, suncare and tanning sale recommendations

Antipodes Hosanna H2O Intensive Skin-Plumping Serum $29.39

This is a water-based serum so it’s absorbed instantly into your skin without leaving it feeling tacky. I like using this under my moisturiser to give it an extra moisturising boost. This is my third bottle and has become one of my holy grails.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel $14.99

I grabbed this during the last skincare sale because dehydrated skin = oily skin as the skin is trying to compensate and I needed a moisturiser that was light and non-greasy. This contains hyaluronic acid which, from my very basic understanding, holds a lot of moisture. This has a nice aquatic scent and again, is very light and absorbed quickly into my skin. I can definitely tell a difference when I apply this moisturiser. Throughout the day, my skin looks hydrated and fresh.

La Roche Posay Thermal Water $14.99

With dehydrated skin comes flaky skin. This spray helps to prep my skin for makeup and finishes it off nicely to ensure my skin isn’t flaking and no cakey makeup here.

Indeed Labs Hydraluron Moisture Jelly $23.99

Another one containing hyaluronic acid. This is used when I want to take a break from the Antipodes Hosanna serum. One pump of this is enough for my whole face and neck. I let it sit for a minute or two then apply the Neutrogena moisturiser. Again, it is very lightweight and you can’t feel it on your skin.

La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo Plus $17.99

Even though this is recommended for acne-prone skin, I use this sparingly as I have really congested pores. It’s a thin consistency and a little goes a long way.

Antipodes Divine Face Oil Organic Avocado Oil and Rosehip $17.39

This is my favourite night time oil. It’s not too greasy (no marks on the pillow!), and keeps my skin hydrated throughout the night. It has a non-offensive scent and brightens up the complexion immensely.

Biore Deep Cleansing Charcoal Pore Strips $4.37

Cos pore strips. Nuff said. These are the charcoal ones so you can see the results even better!

Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micelle Solution $19.19

I remember hearing about this holy grail from Rae Morris at a blog even back in 2011. Six years later and I am still using it. It is seriously one of the best products ever. One of my desert island products. Whenever I am feeling lazy, I use this to remove my makeup and it works a treat. It’s like using water! So good for sensitive skin and doesn’t dry out my skin any further.

L’Oreal Pure Clay Mask: Detoxifying and Brightening Clay Mask $11.99

I’m sure you have seen these all over the internet and the hype is well deserved. It leaves your skin feeling smooth and pores don’t appear as obvious.

Biore Self Heating One Minute Mask with Natural Charcoal $4.79

I purchased this based off a recommendation from a friend. Most face masks you’re supposed to leave on for about 10-15 minutes. If you’re short on time but need so quick deep cleaning, use this! After a minute, it starts to warm up on your face and when you wash it off, you get smooth clean skin.

So those are my tried and trusted products from Priceline. I went ahead and purchased some newbies today and will update at the next Priceline skincare sale :)

Happy shopping! X

Christmas Gift Guide: Sephora

With only 3 more sleeps until Christmas, and 2 days left to do any last minute shopping, here is a quick round up of some great beauty gifts available from Sephora this year.

Sephora collection

  • Konjac duo $20 – looking like a strange kitchen sponge, konjac sponges gently cleanse and exfoliate your skin making them ideal for those with super sensitive skin. The white sponge has lycopene to renew and protect the skin from environmental damage; the grey sponge has charcoal to draw out toxins from your skin and absorb oil.
  • The Bath Party mini bath pearls $10 – packaged in a cute pyramid ornament, these bath pearls melt into the water and fills the room with a cotton flower scent.
  • Moisturising Hand Cream (Cotton Flower) $10 – hand creams are always a great stocking stuffer! A girl can never have too many hand creams. This one from Sephora is easily absorbed and keeps your cuticles and hands hydrated thanks to the shea butter.

The Original Makeup Eraser $20

A non-distinct cloth that claims to remove ALL of your makeup with JUST water?? What is this sorcery?! I was sceptical at first until a brand representative showed me and I saw it with my own two eyes.

This is the best makeup remover for all lazy girls. I love using this after a night out because it means I don’t need do the whole double cleanse, and eye makeup remover

June Jacobs

June Jacobs available at Sephora

  • Lip Renewal $32 – this lip balm is petroleum free, natural, infused with cocoa butter, shea butter and vitamin E to ensure your lips stay hydrated and soft. It smells gently of citrus fruits and feel pleasant on the lips.
  • Neroli Hydrating Mist $50 – Face mists have become my new favourite product. I used to think I didn’t need them but I started using the Avene one and consider me converted. This one by June Jacobs contains antioxidants and the neroli gives you a nice freshen up throughout the day.

Estelle & Thild

  • Deep Cleansing Detox Mask $58 -Seriously cannot go wrong with face masks. This one from Estelle & Thild is clay-based and works well at cleaning out the pores, and detoxify the skin. This is a great mask for this with oily/combination skin. Most clay masks set but this one does not set completely and remains slightly creamy which means it is easier to remove.
  • Age Control Serum $107 – enriched with marine micro algae which works to reduce the signs of ageing, and provide instant hydration and plumping. I love that this serum is absorbed quickly into my skin and the next morning, my skin looks flawless and less irritated looking.
  • Sparkling Citrus Bloom Hand Soap $32 – A bright citrus scent to awaken the senses, I love this! Find some hand soaps too drying for my hands but this does the job and keeps my hands moisturised.

IT Cosmetics

ITCosmetics at Sephora

  • Je Ne Sai Quoi Your Complexion Perfection palette $62 – comes with four talc-free powders, blush, bronzer, highlighter and pressed powder, to ensure a flawless face wherever you are. These powders are all you need when you’re on the go, or travelling often. The pans are large enough for a powder brush to pick up the product. One caveat is that the shades may be a little light for those with tanned skin like me but fair skinned ladies should have no problems with the pigmentation.
  • Je Ne Sai Quoi Your Perfect Pink Duo $34 – a moisturising long lasting lip balm that works with your natural lip colour to give you a flush of pink. The lip gloss is great for a top coat if you want to go from day to night. Long time readers will know my hatred for glosses because they’re so sticky but this is not sticky at all and actually lasts a while.

Clarity

    • OxyMud Cacao Duo Cleanse and Renewal mask – a clay mask that looks and smells like melted chocolate thanks to the cacao. This mask feels like a mousse when applied but once applied, it takes about 10-15 minutes for it to foam up.

  • Diamond Glow Overnight Masque – the mask contains shea butter and olive oil which helps to nourish and moisturise your skin; diamond powder to really penetrate your pores, clean and brighten your skin. Overnight masks are my new favourites because they’re so hydrating and work so well. I always wake up with soft bouncy skin!

Clean

Clean Reserve Travel Spray Layering Collection

Clean Reserve Travel Spray Layering Collection

The Reserve Travel Spray Layering Set contains six travel sized scents which are designed to be worn alone or layered with each other. My favourite scents are Rain and Velvet Flora. This makes a great gift for the jet setter in your life, or maybe she’s a bit fickle when it comes to scents? Perfect.

So there you have it – a quick round up of some great Christmas gifts available at Sephora for y0ur last minute Christmas rush.

Sephora Brands Showcase 2016

I was very fortunate to get an invitation to the Sephora brands showcase where brand representatives from the likes of Givenchy, IT Cosmetics, Kat von D, Tarte, Ole Henriksen etc walked me through launches and products for the next 6 months.

Keep reading and take a virtual walk-through with me as I show you some new products! Just a warning that this a very picture heavy post!

My first stop was Ouai Haircare which was recently launched in Sephora stores. It’s created by the Kardashians’ hair stylist, Jen Atkins, and smells amazing. The products are all about creating easy, chic hairstyles that anyone can achieve.

Ouai

Ouai

I then moved onto Commodity. Firstly, how modern and aesthetically pleasing is the packaging?

Commodity

Commodity

The fragrances can be used on their own or mixed and matched to create a uniquely “you” scent. The white collection includes scents that are light and airy. The black collection includes scents that are more complex, intense and moody.
My favourite scent was Rain. It is a very light floral and smelt fresh and refreshing.

Tarte

Tarte

Tarte…oh my heart. Tarte will be releasing their Naughty Nudes collection in the next few months. The collection will include 5 nude-toned lip paints, Exposed highlighter, Lippie Lingeries (I think 6?), and 4 complimenting blushes. My pick would be the Exposed highlighter. It is pigmented and gives a very nice glow that is not too in your face. It would make a great everyday highlighter.

Tarte

Tarte

After the Tarte stand, I made my way over to Kat von D who will be releasing the Lock It cream concealers in 22 different shades as well as one white shade. You will definitely find a shade to suit you! The concealers are really creamy and opaque – a little will go a long way with this concealer. The applicator is teardrop shaped allowing for precise application and control.

Kat von D

Kat von D

Kat von D will also be releasing a translucent powder, which is so finely milled that when I went to dip my finger in, it kind of just sunk in!

Kat von D

Next stop was the Algenist booth. I met Sonya, the director of international sales, who demonstrated the PERFECT Clarifying Pore Corrector Mask on my hand. It is a professional-grade mask combining alguronic acid and sulfur to absorb excess oil, reduce the appearance of pores and leave skin feeling plump and soft! Does that not sound amazing? It does everything I look for in a facial mask.

Algenist

Algenist

Walking away with smooth hands, I stopped at The CLEAN Perfume booth, which is all about fragrances embodying simple and unpretentious scents like Fresh Laundry, Ultimate Warm Cotton and Summer Linen. The brand focuses on everyday scents that bring happy, warm, fuzzy feelings. The packaging is clean and simple and is eco-friendly! It is made from recyclable materials, is able to be recycled, the ink used is water-based and non-toxic, the alcohol is also non-toxic, corn-derived and aloe vera based, and even the cellophane packaging is corn-derived and compostable. My favourite scent was Rain. It smelt light and fresh – just the way I like it.

Clean

I also did a quick stop at Edible Beauty – a brand that produces skincare products which are actually edible. I was lucky to be educated by the brand founder, Anna Mitsios. She explained to me the idea behind the brand and how to use each product. There are four core products and they are numbered in the order you’re supposed to use them. In addition to the core four, there are also additional products you can add to your skincare routine. Simple, and the packaging is made from Miron Violet Glass to prevent any visible light passing through to protect the properties and active ingredients in the products.

Edible Beauty - Gold Eye Cream

Edible Beauty – Gold Eye Cream

After grabbing a quick bite, I headed to the Sephora booth. The stand out for me were release of new shades to the existing lipstick line. Sephora is also releasing cushion glow creams and matte lip creams!

Sephora

Sephora

The lip creams go on sheer but are very buildable and the shades are very soft pink, nude shades.

I headed over to the IT Cosmetics stand after I spied a new eye product. I already love their Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer so the new addition of the Bye Bye Under Eye Illumination has me excited. It provides full coverage but at the same time, some highlighting as well.

Becca Cosmetics. No description necessary. Unfortunately, the palettes have sold out and I was not quick enough to get my hands on it. If you can find it somewhere without having to pay with your organs, I recommend it. The powders are finely milled, pigmented and shades are stunning!

Becca Cosmetics

Caolion, a Korean beauty brand making their mark in Sephora, is all about skincare and attacking those pesky pores! It is also the first natural skincare brand from Korea. What intrigued me were their duo packs. There are three different packs depending on your skincare concern and their aim is to detox, restore and enhance your skin. I can’t wait to use their products as I do have large pores and am always looking to minimise their appearance.

Caolion

Caudalie

Caudalie also had a booth and I was very excited to see that they are coming to Sephora Australia. Caudalie is a natural French skincare brand with a focus on the antioxidant powers of grapevines and grape Polyphenols. The products all contain a grapes or grapevine as an ingredient and these come from Caudalie’s own vineyard in Bordeaux, France. I was very lucky to receive two of their cult products to try – the beauty elixir and the radiance serum. Cannot wait!

Caudalie

I also did a quick stop at CoverFX and had a play with the new liquid highlighters. I think the pictures and video speak for themselves.

I spoke to Karyssa, retail education and artistry executive at Make Up For Ever who told me that they will be overhauling some product lines. This includes releasing 46 brand new shades to their Artist Rouge range. She told me that brands are constantly revising their products and formulas to ensure they stay at the top of their makeup game. Another new release will be the Water Blend Face and Body foundation which feels super light, applies like a dream and doesn’t feel or look cakey.

Make Up For Ever

Make Up For Ever

A Taiwanese skincare brand, For Beloved One, has a range focusing solely in dry skin, with the main ingredient being hyaluronic acid which has amazing water holding properties. Ever since my move to Melbourne, my skin has been so dry and flaky due to the dry air and cold. I am definitely looking forward to seeing this range in store to treat my skin.

Other noticeable brands and news:
Marc Jacobs – there will be a holiday release of 5 mini lipsticks in varying shades plus a metallic pink clutch. New Air Blushes are being released in September.

Givenchy – new Le Prisme Visage will be released next month. New lipsticks are also being released with packaging made from genuine leather. This nude blush leather is what I am waiting for. So girly, so pretty!

Review: Dermalogica Overnight Retinol Repair

Dermalogica recently launched a 0.5% retinol treatment with the ability to customise the strength of the retinol depending on the individual customer’s skin.

Upon opening the box, you will notice there are two products – buffer cream and the Oovernight Retinol Repair.

Dermalogica Overnight Retinol Repair $105.30

Dermalogica Overnight Retinol Repair $105.30

Dermalogica Overnight Retinol Repair promises to, amongst other things,  increase collagen production, improve wrinkle appearance, increase skin hydration and improve skin’s firmness.

I’ve always been quite apprehensive of retinol treatments as I am scared as to how my skin will react. By having the ability to reduce or increase the retinol and giving my skin time to acclimatise to the ingredients, this was the perfect retinol starter product for me.

The first week that I used it, I followed the instructions and applied it with a ratio of 3 parts buffer cream and 1 part Overnight Retinol Repair. This was a chance to get my skin used to the retinol product and to slowly ease my skin into it. This first week, I noticed that my skin looked a lot  more plump.

The second week, I went 2:1 and noticed not only the plumping of my skin but also, there was a noticeable lack of dry skin flakes. You definitely notice how hydrated you skin is even after just applying it.

Third and fourth week, I decided I was going to skip the buffer cream and just use the Overnight Retinol Repair. I felt no tingling sensation (my skin is quite tough…or it’s numb…) but was left with less redness in my cheeks, plump-looking and brighter looking skin.

I had to be mindful and wear a hardcore sunscreen whilst using this product. I usually opt for SPF15+ but using the Overnight Retinol Repair, I broke out the SPF50+. I noticed no scent from the creams and they were absorbed quickly into my skin leaving no grease face behind.

You can purchase this from Ry for $105.30 which includes a 30ml tube of the Overnight Retinol Repair and a 15ml tube of the Buffer Cream. Whilst this may seem like a high price tag, compared to other retinol products available in the market, this is actually on the lower end of the spectrum.

Review: Arcona Los Angeles Skin Care

Arcona Los Angeles Skin Care

Arcona Los Angeles Skin Care

I first heard of Arcona skin care when I attended the Sephora beauty brand showcase back in April. A relatively new brand to Australia, Arcona is a holistic skin care brand based in LA. Their goal is to contain as much active ingredients as possible and decrease the number of “filler” ingredients in their products. In order to achieve this goal, their ingredients are cold-pressed in small batches.

When their brand representative tried the Cranberry Gommage, a 2011 Allure Best of Beauty winner, on my hand, I was instantly sucked in. My hand felt so smooth and soft afterwards!

I was kindly sent a skin care regimen from Arcona based on my oily skin. Here are the products I have been trialling over the last few months:

Arcona Los Angeles Skin Care (Gentle Solution, Toner Tea Bar, Cranberry Grommage, Magic White Ice, Eye Dew)

Arcona Los Angeles Skin Care (Gentle Solution, Toner Tea Bar, Cranberry Grommage, Magic White Ice, Eye Dew)

Cranberry Gommage (AM) $60AUD – This is a grape flavoured (smells like Hubba Bubba!) chemical and physical exfoliant. I found this exfoliant to have pretty rough exfoliating grains meaning I had to be gentle. I couldn’t just go to town with this on my face! It was very much like rubbing sandpaper on your skin. Despite all this, the results were great. Gentle, light, upward and outward circles and I was left with skin that was instantly brighter, felt smoother and dry skin sloughed off. This was alternated with the Toner Tea Bar and used the morning after having used the Gentle Solution.

Magic White Ice (AM/PM) $54AUD – Used as a daily moisturiser, this gel was a lightweight and non-greasy moisturiser that’s absorbed immediately. Skin was left feeling hydrated and smooth. This has a very light floral scent.

Eye Dew (PM) $52AUD – I used this only at night as I found it left a greasy ring around my eyes. The texture is thick and I felt that it was not absorbed quickly. It remained sticky even after letting it sit for a while so  I definitely recommend this only as a night time product.

Toner Tea Bar (AM/PM) $46AUD – This comes in the form of a soap bar. Definitely not the usual form my cleansers come in. It comes in its own jar for storage with raised bits on the bottom (like an inbuilt drip tray) to aerate the bar and keep the bad germs away. To use this, I wet my face with some water first then I apply the toner tea bar to my face in circular motions. It takes a bit of getting used to but once you get it, it works great. The Toner Tea Bar contains antioxidants from the green and black tea and has a very “earthy” scent. It didn’t foam up as I went over my face with the Toner Tea Bar but it foamed up really well when I went over it again with water to cleanse off. It does a great job at tightening the pores and leaves your skin feeling clean but not dried out.

Gentle Solution (PM) $68AUD – I alternated this with the Magic White Ice. Gentle Solution is a night time serum aimed at repairing your skin while you sleep. It is to be used alone. Don’t apply any other serums or creams on top of this! When first applied, it feels sticky and tacky. Wait five minutes after application and it’s absorbed into your skin and leaves no trace. The next morning, I am faced with plumper skin, reduced redness, minimised pores and less oily skin. The morning after, it is recommended to wash the serum off with an exfoliator so I use the Cranberry Gommage.

Arcona Los Angeles Skin Care (Triad Pads, Raspberry Resurfacing Peel, Tea Tree Mask)

Arcona Los Angeles Skin Care (Triad Pads, Raspberry Resurfacing Peel, Tea Tree Mask)

Triad Pads $14AUD – These smell so yummy thanks to the cranberry extract. These pads can be used at any time to: cleanse, tone and/or remove makeup. So versatile making it a great product to bring along on short trips, in your handbag, keep at the work desk etc The Triad Pads are moist, have one smooth and one bumpy side, and removes makeup really well. I love that it is a multipurpose product and on my lazy days it steps up as my makeup remover, cleanser and toner. BAM!

Raspberry Resurfacing Peel $60AUD – I rarely use peels as I am scared of how my skin will react. This Raspberry Resurfacing Peel has a light fruity scent, reminiscent of a raspberry smoothie; and feels like jam. I like to think that my skin is pretty tough so when my skin was tingling after application, I just thought “Wow. This Raspberry Resurfacing Peel must be very potent!” I left this on for the recommended 3-5 minutes and the results? My skin was radiant, glowing, pores minimised, no dry flakes and very smooth!

Tea Tree Mask $46AUD – I think this is my first sulfur mask..anyway. This mask is great if you are having an attack of the pimples. This is a clay-based mask but feels much thinner than my other clay-based masks. You’ll first notice the scent – a mix of flowers, tea tree and mint. Due to its light and thin texture, it’s easy to apply and cover all the crevices on your face. When applied, there’s a cooling sensation – not to be confused with a tingly, burning sensation. The mask dries but does not harden. I remove it with a warm face cloth and my skin is left feeling so refreshed, clean, smooth and balanced. Definitely becoming one of my favourite face masks to use!

After using exclusively Arcona skin care products over the last few months, my skin has had minimal breakouts, feels smooth and hydrated and not as oily. The texture of my skin has definitely improved going from patchy dry and flaky skin to healthy looking skin!

Yes, the prices are a big high for those on a tight budget but as Arcona products are natural, I would consider Arcona’s products to be an investment on your path towards great, trouble-free skin.  Arcona is available at Sephora – located at Pitt St Mall, Sydney; Macquarie Centre, Sydney and coming soon, Melbourne Central, Melbourne.

Review: Natural Instinct Face Care Products

Natural Instinct Face Care Products

Natural Instinct Face Care Products

Natural Instinct is a range with ingredients that are derived from plants, essential oils and certified organic extracts. The packaging is recyclable and it’s made in Australia. Usually for products with these properties, you’re looking a paying $30+ for a product but Natural Instinct products are affordable with prices starting from only $7.95! I was given the opportunity to trial some of their skincare products and here are my thoughts:

Natural Instinct Refreshing Foaming Cleanser $9.95
The foaming cleanser is rich in vitamin C which helps to brighten up your skin as it cleans. I like to use this cleanser in the morning to help wake me up. It’s clear and feels very fluid in terms of consistency. It foams up really well and doesn’t leave my skin feeling tight at all.

Natural Instinct Replenishing Cream Cleanser $9.95
The foaming cleanser is a bit thicker in consistency, almost looking like a moisturiser! Doesn’t foam up like the Foaming Cleanser but again, leaves my skin feeling clean without being tight.  The Replenishing Cream Cleanser contains ingredients like sesame and rosehip oils and a calming blend of sweet orange, geranium and chamomile makes it my cleanser of choice for evening. The richness of the cleanser also helps in removing any left over remnants of makeup.

Natural Instinct Nourishing Facial Moisturiser $14.95
Despite containing sweet almond oil and rosehip oil, which I thought would mean a heavy and greasy feeling moisturiser, I was left pleasantly surprised as it was easily absorbed into my skin leaving no greasy film. The only con is that I have to use a little bit more moisturiser than I usually would when applying to my face.

Natural Instinct Cleansing Facial Wipes $7.95/25 pack
100% biodegradeable facial wipes; these are well soaked in a glycerin and aloe mix and feels smooth on your skin. I usually use 2 wipes for a full face of makeup and then follow up with the Replenishing Cream Cleanser. It has a slight citrus scent which I’m not a fan of but it’s not too strong and goes away after cleansing.

Natural Instinct Restoring Night Cream $19.95
The Restoring Night Cream contains oils that are hydrating and promises to keep your skin hydrated for up to 12 hours. This means that when applied, it works throughout the night to keep your skin smooth and improve your skin’s elasticity. I loved using this Restoring Night Cream throughout Winter as kept my skin hydrated without feeling heavy at night.

Natural Instinct Rejuvenating Rosehip Oil $19.95
If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that I have a recently discovered love for facial oils. It contains powerful antioxidants, omega oils and vitamins ensuring up to 12 hours of hydration and improving the appearance of fine lines. One of my main criterias for facial oils is that it has to be easily absorbed as I hate leaving marks on my pillows and this meets that criteria. It absorbs quickly into my skin and I don’t look like I have a grease trap on my face. Tick, tick, tick!

You can purchase Natural Instinct products from pharmacies including Priceline, Terry White, and health stores nationwide. To find your closest stockist, click here.

Review: Violet Box April 2015

Violet Box April 2015

Violet Box April 2015

Lonvitalite C2 Collagen Protein Wrinkle Removing Mask $9.95
As you all know by now, I LOVE face masks and this promises to smooth out lines, reinforce skin growth & enhance skin moisture.

Tini Beauty Eye Shadow (Pearl Fizz) by Rob Scheppy $16
Firstly, this is not the first time I have received an eyeshadow (or powder product) from Violet Box that has shattered in transit. This annoys me as I feel like these fragile products should be packaged just a little bit better. If I was a paying subscriber I would be very annoyed as shattered products = wasted time trying to put them back together or wasted money because I’d probably just throw it out as I can’t be bothered putting it back.

Pearl Fizz is a warm toned light champagne shade. It looks like it would have been a nice brow bone or all over lid shade. But I’m honestly too lazy to put it back together so I’m just going to bin it.

Evelyn Iona Natural and Organic Concealer (Flawless) $24.99
I’m  a bit unsure about this; it contains a lot of “oil” ingredients – coconut, jojoba and vitamin e. It has a lot of “slip” to it so I really am interested in trying this to see how long it’ll last!

Urban Skincare Co. Daily Hand & Body Cleanser ~$1.89 ($26.95/500ml)
Described as an alternative to soap, this hand & body cleanser smells like oranges & is supposed to be gentle enough to remove everyday dirt & grime without remove the lipid barrier.

Lipsi Cosmetics Aphrodite Powder ~$7.24 ($38/21g)
A finishing powder that absorbs excess oil. Ever since I returned from my holiday in the USA, my skin has gone oil crazy! So again, I am interested in trying this and seeing how well it can control the oil situation on my face.

Transformulas Eye Lifting Gel $49
Transformulas FaceContour & Tightening Creme $59
Satchet samples? Really? For what these products promise, I don’t think satchet samples would be enough to see results. One of the satchets just fills like it’s full of air. I have used other Transformulas products before and they have yielded good results so fingers crossed?

This month’s box was slightly disappointing. I understand there were some issues regarding a product but it just felt like the box was packed in a huge rush. Broken products, missing product card. Just not on the ball there, Violet Box. I think this may be the first box where it’s mostly made up of samples and deluxe samples with only one full size product (the eyeshadow) but even with the full size product, I can’t even use it because it’s shattered!

In terms of value, April’s box was very disappointing for me. This is the first box where I have been left disappointed. The broken eyeshadow detracts from the value of the box as I cannot use it, The lack of sizes noted on the samples mean that even just a generous estimate, the value of the box is close to or just a bit more than the monthly subscription fee.

Subscription boxes are available from $22.95/month. For more information on Violet Box, check out their website here.

Review: Violet Box March 2015

March’s box contained some pretty cool products which I am looking forward to trying.

Violet Box March 2015

Violet Box March 2015

Biology Equilibrium Body Lotion No. 304 $8.70/30ml ($29/100ml)
This body moisturiser promises to bring your body’s moisture levels back into balance using natural ingredients. It has a very organic, natural scent and the lemongrass scent, which isn’t my favourite of scents, is not too strong though it does linger. Not too sure if I’ll be using this as I don’t like lemongrass.

Bioderma Sebium Foaming Gel $1.50/15ml ($24.95/250ml)
I currently use a full size version of this foaming gel and have posted my thoughts on it here.

Doucce Mineral Matte Lipstick $29.95

Doucce Mineral Matte Lipstick in 903 $29.95

Doucce Mineral Matte Lipstick in 903 $29.95

First, I absolutely love the packaging. It reminds me of Guerlain’s heavy duty and sleek packaging but without the weight! I received this in shade 903 – a dusty rose shade that I normally gravitate towards if I’m feeling a natural lip. Props for having SPF 10 infused as well – any sunscreen protection is better than no sunscreen protection!

Doucce Lip Definer $29.95

Doucce Lip Definer in 456 $29.95

Doucce Lip Definer in 456 $29.95

I’ve only recently started using lip liners and I am glad that this comes in a shade that matches the lipstick. It takes the hard work out of guessing! This is in shade 456 and the Doucce lip definers claim to give a velvet matte finish and be waterproof.

Doucce Lip Definer in 456 & Mineral Matte Lipstick in 903

Doucce Lip Definer in 456 & Mineral Matte Lipstick in 903

Lonvitalite C8 Collagen Crystal Eye Mask $5.33 (32/6 pk)
I love using eye masks like these because you get instant results! These eye masks will help to brighten your eyes and remove the appearance of dark circles and fine lines.

Month after month, Violet Box continues to introduce new brands to me and ensure the value of the products included far outweigh the subscription fee. I think this is very impressive in itself especially having been around for over a year now and still managing to achieve this monthly.

Subscription boxes are available from $22.95/month. For more information on Violet Box, check out their website here.

Review: Violet Box February 2015

This box made it with one day left of February. Talk about cutting it close!

This month’s box contained 5 products, 4 of which were full size products.

Natural World Moroccan Argan Oil ($5.99/25ml)
Remember when argan oil was all the rage? This is definitely going to be put to use once I use up my other hair oils. As my hair is quite damaged still from all the bleach, I love that using a hair oil helps my hair feel much softer and look a bit healthier.

Suki Exfoliate Foaming Cleanser $11.74/30ml ($46.95/120ml)
I love exfoliating cleansers as I think it saves me a bit of time (and bathroom counter space). It has a fresh citrus scent and looks like a larger version of the Lush Lip Scrub. I’m a bit worried about the sugar granules but the packaging assures me that their “round-edged sugar crystals slough dead skin without tearing…” I’m definitely intrigued!

Emite Make Up BB Highlighting Pen $32
So a concealing jumbo pencil. I cannot wait to try this. If this works, I will be adding it to my make up bag for sure! Despite its name, the description tells me it’s a concealer pen. I got this in the shade Coco but I haven’t tried it yet to see whether the colour matches.

Teeez Trend Cosmetics Easy on the Eyes Pencil $26
Received this in Black de Luxe, a very deep black which goes on very easily. This is supposed to be waterproof and long lasting – something I always like in my eyeliners – so I cannot wait to try this.

Teeez Trend Cosmetics Easy on the Eyes Pencil $26 / Emite Make Up BB Highlighting Pen $32

Teeez Trend Cosmetics Easy on the Eyes Pencil $26 / Emite Make Up BB Highlighting Pen $32

Pretty Woman Magnetix Nail Polish $9.99
I received the shade Metallic Pink which . One thing that’s different about this magnetic polish is that there are 2 magnets included – one with a wavy design and one with straight lines. Another feature that stood out was the fact that the magnets are actually curved – for ease of use over the nails. Perfect!

Once again, Violet Box delivers! Constantly putting together monthly boxes with brands and products I haven’t heard of and with a value that far exceeds the monthly subscription price, I honestly think Violet Box is one of the better beauty subscription boxes out there.

Subscription boxes are available from $22.95/month. For more information on Violet Box, check out their website here.

Review: Bioderma Sebium Skincare Range

Bioderma is an independent French dermalogical laboratory whose skincare products are among the most frequently recommended by dermatologists and makeup artists alike.

Bioderma Sebium Skincare Range 5865538763

Bioderma Sebium Skincare Range 5865538763

I first heard of Bioderma and its amazing micellar water, Crealine (now Sensibio) H2O, when I attended a workshop held by Rae Morris. After getting my hands on a bottle, my makeup game has changed.  It is a cult product and one which I believe is worthy of all the hype surrounding it.

Bioderma now has a few different ranges aimed at different skin types. Today, I will be reviewing the Sebium range which has been specifically formulated for combination to oily skin and skin prone to acne.

PRODUCT RANGE

Sebium H2O – 100ml $19.95, 250ml $29.95

A micellar solution, just like the popular (and original) Crealine counterpart, it uses micelles to cleanse and remove make up. It is soap- and alcohol-free.

Sebium H2O - 100ml $19.95, 250ml $29.95

Sebium H2O – 100ml $19.95, 250ml $29.95

Like I mentioned above, Bioderma’s micellar water is a holy grail product for me.  It looks, feels and even smells like water but it isn’t water! It removes make up really well (even waterproof products) and doesn’t leave an oily film on my face. There is no scent, no heavy feeling or tightness after using the micellar water.

It comes like a flip top bottle and you just squeeze out how much you need onto a round make up pad. This can be a bit inconveniencing especially when you can’t control exactly how much you need. But you can grab a pump bottle from Priceline to solve this (Model Co does a great one for only $5.95).

Sebium Foaming Gel – 200ml $24.95

This is a foaming cleanser for those that would like to be safe and cleanse after removing their make up with the Sebium H2O. Despite being called a gel, it is not as thick as your typical gel cleansers. It does foam up a little but not like a super foam ball on your face or anything. I didn’t feel any tightness on my skin after using it and didn’t detect a scent with this cleanser. This cleanser is also soap- and alcohol-free, making it compatible with all skin types.

Sebium Foaming Gel - 200ml $24.95

Sebium Foaming Gel – 200ml $24.95

It comes in a pump bottle and the blue colouring is from the combination of zinc and copper sulfates. I find that one pump is more than enough to cleanse a full face.

Sebium Gel Gommant Purifant – 100ml $24.95

This exfoliating gel contains tiny microbeads, probably the same size as sand grains, and works really well at providing a deep clean of the pores. Bioderma recommends using this one or twice a week to help prepare your skin for your skincare routine.

Sebium Gel Gommant Purifant - 100ml $24.95

Sebium Gel Gommant Purifant – 100ml $24.95

I used this about three times a week and because the exfoliating beads are quite small, it didn’t irritate my skin. Despite it being a gel, I found that it wasn’t as thick in consistency.

After reading the press release, I realised it could be used as an exfoliating cleanser. Silly me had been using it as a separate exfoliator to the cleanser above meaning I had been double (actually, triple! if you count the H2o as a cleanser too) cleansing my skin. And yet, my skin wasn’t “over processed” at all. It was not irritated by the increased cleansing.

The Sebium Gel Gommant Purifant comes in a squeeze tube bottle which is quite normal for facial exfoliants (correct me if I’m wrong?). I have no issues with this except I just have to be slightly careful when dispensing the product.

Sebium Pore Refiner – 30ml $30.95

This is a moisturiser targeted at those with oily skin, or skin that is prone to acne. It mattifies, refines and smoothes the skin and makes one hell of a make up base.

I like to apply this to areas where I normally get oil during the day – namely the T-Zone – and this ensures minimal oiliness during the day. Yes! A product that does what it says.

The moisturiser is absorbed quickly, and being mattifying in nature, does not leave a trace behind on your face. It’s got a very light texture and didn’t feel heavy on my skin.

This comes in a thin squeeze tube, twist lid with a small nozzle making it a bit easier to dispense the moisturiser. Its packaging is pretty much identical to the Sebium Global (discussed below) with its point of difference being a thin silver band around the top of the lid.

Sebium Global - 30ml $25.95; Sebium Pore Refiner - 30ml $30.95

Sebium Global – 30ml $25.95; Sebium Pore Refiner – 30ml $30.95

It is lightly scented but is a fresh scent that reminds me of cucumbers. I didn’t really notice a difference in my pores but I definitely noticed that it kept my skin matte for much longer!

Sebium Global – 30ml $25.95

This daily facial moisturiser is formulated for skin that is prone to acne – which is not my skin type at all. However, it worked really well with my skin. My skin was left feeling clear and very minimal spots were seen on the surface.

Again, like the Sebium Pore Refiner, this moisturiser was absorbed very quikcly into the skin, left no residual film, and it felt like I was wearing nothing on my face.

OVERALL

I really enjoyed using this skincare range and I felt that all the products worked together really well to produce results! After trialling this range, I was able to walk out of the house with no base make up on and my skin looked radiant, smooth and semi-flawless. I definitely recommend this skincare range to those with oily to combination skin. The Sebium Pore Refiner is definitely a stand out product for me in terms of its mattifying properties.
