Review: Violet Box September 2014

Oops! Sorry for the late post. Like usual, I received the box towards the last week and a half of the month.

Violet Box September 2014

Scandalous Fabulously Flirty Dry Shampoo ($16.95)
I haven’t heard of this brand but I am looking forward to trialling the dry shampoo and see whether it beats my HG, Batiste.

Foltene Nail Treatment ($29.95)
August’s Violet Box included the Foltene Eyelash Treatment. The Nail Treatment promises to repair “dry, brittle dull nails that easily break” and can be used over nail polish. This is intriguing to me because whenever my nails need to be rescued, I rely on OPI Nail Envy which I use on my nails alone and never with polish.

Girlactik Eyeshadow ($23)
This is the second time I’ve received in a Violet Box that had a shattered eyeshadow. I think if Violet Box is going to include fragile products in their boxes, they should package them appropriately. The colour I received is Pink Ruffle. Apart from the fact that it’s shattered (and can probably be fixed), it’s not a shade I would normally reach for. My skin is too tanned to be able to pull it off IMO but I will try the shade once I get around to fixing it.

Starlooks Ultra Olive Gem Pencil ($21.50)
Received this in Amythest in the March Violet Box (and the price went up $2 in 7 months?). It has a metallic finish thanks to the micro-glitter and glides on very easily so definitely no pulling or tugging on the eyelids. Ultra Oliver is an olive-green shade that is slightly golden in some lights. Due to the micro-glitter, I would probably avoid this on my bottom lashline as it is quite sensitive.

Polished London Nail Enamel ($8)
Fast setting formula and claims to be chip resistant? Challenge accepted. I received the shade Big Ben, which is a slightly minty Tiffany blue.

Overall, the September Violet Box was just ok for me. There were no real standout products for me this month and it’s just disappointing that the eyeshadow shattered. Value-wise, yes, you are getting value for money but compared to the past boxes, I feel like this is one of the ‘not so great’ boxes.

Review: Violet Box March 2014

This month’s Violet Box didn’t arrive until towards the end of March which is probably the latest I’ve ever received a Violet Box.

Let’s get straight into it –

Love Those Lashes Silk Strip Lashes in The Jade $14.95
I have only started getting into false lashes and these will make a welcome addition to my collection. They look great to wear for a night out. I have not had the chance to try these yet so cannot comment on them much. It does come with its own adhesive so I will see whether the adhesive glue works the same or better than the Ardell ones. My case was actually broken when the Violet Box arrived which is a shame.

Starlooks Gem Pencil in Amethyst $19.50
Usually comes in 6 different shades, the options for this month’s Violet Box was between Topaz or Amethyst. Amethyst is a metallic lilac shade. It glides on very easy and looks great. I cannot comment on wear time etc because I haven’t had the chance to wear it out either…

Sinful Colors Nail Polish in Gogo Girl $4.95
I have already received this shade in September’s Violet Box..it makes for a nice red and goes on easy.

Acorelle Skincare Night Cream ~$1.98/2ml ($49.50/50ml)
In January’s Violet Box, subscribers received a sample of Acorelle’s fragrances and this month, it’s a selection from their skincare range. I received the night cream which has a very strong herbal scent.

Mireness Velvet Lip Moisture Shine in 47 Sweet Tart ~$13.32/1.5g ($39.95/4.5g)
This is a mini version of what Mirenesse claims is an “award winning” lip product. This lip gloss is a lip plumper and the shade I received is slightly coral/peachy shade with gold microshimmer and smells like chocolate. The applicator is a a flattened wand and swatched really smoothly and was very pigmented.

This month’s box was slightly underwhelming. The only item that really piqued my interest were the lashes. Sure, the value of the items far exceeded the value of the monthly subscription fee but for some reason, I just didn’t feel ‘wow’-d!
