Review – Tom Ford True Coral private blend lip color

I love giving myself rewards as motivation. So with a price tag of $65, I certainly was not going to casually drop my hard earned cash so easily.

A couple of months back, after trying so hard to resist the lure that is Tom Ford private blend lipsticks, I decided that I will reward myself with one of his lipsticks should I earn a HD this semester at uni. I’m not a HD average student so this was motivation enough for me. Lo and behold, three weeks ago, I received one of my essays back and I just earned myself a HD!!!!! All I could think of was HD = Tom Ford lipstick! Wooooot.

I was running around, phoning and emailing anyone and anything about how to get my hands on the previous packaging which was an ivory case with gold accents but this proved to be pointless. So I settled for the new black packaging with gold accents.

I was all ready to purchase online but then found myself in the city one weekend and thought why not just purchase one right now? 😉 Purchased True Coral because Jacie‘s swatches made it look AH-MAY-ZING.

Packaging

As with all gorgeous Tom Ford lipsticks now, they are packaged in sleek black packaging with gorgeous gold accents. It’s weighty enough to feel luxurious but not so heavy you don’t want to carry it around.

Summer in a lipstick. Despite its name, I find that this leans towards the red-coral end of the coral spectrum not quite true coral but coral enough :)

I love bright lips especially in Summer. I find that they brighten up your face without you having to have put in too much effort.

I love the opacity of True Coral. It was very pigmented – I only needed about 1.5 swipes to get the coverage I needed.

True Coral has a satin finish so you get the sheen without the sparkles.

However it isn’t as moisturising as I would like (see how it swatches on my dry lips) so you definitely need to prep your lips prior to application.

After about 4 hours, it starts to fade but due to its opacity and lovely lush coral brightness, you’re left with a gorgeous stain!

PS I think my sense of smell is broken because I’ve read reviews about Tom Ford lipsticks and their light vanilla scent but I couldn’t detect anything.

Review – Tom Ford Pink Adobe private blend lip color

So who is this Tom Ford dude? He is a well-known designer and also made his mark as Gucci’s creative director. His first initial foray into cosmetics began with a collaboration with Estee Lauder which was highly successful and popular. After his success, Tom Ford launched his signature fragrance Tom Ford Black Orchid followed by Tom Ford For Men.

Packaging

The private blend lipsticks were first introduced to us in early 2010 with 12 shades on offer. Tom Ford then had a play around with the shades and the lipsticks are back with 18 shades now!  He also changed the packaging boo.

These lipsticks are infused with ingredients such as soja seed extract and Brazilian murumuru butter to help give the lipsticks a creamy texture. The colour pigments are specially formulated and together they give the most perfect amount of colour and luminous finish. Each lipstick bullet is stamped with the ‘TF” logo.

The lipsticks come packaged in square black cases with gold accents. They feel a bit more weighty thus giving them the luxe feel, imo. The lid ‘clicks’ on nicely and it’s definitely something you want to display on your vanity!

Product

Pink Adobe is a rosy-pink-brown with no shimmer.

It’s a very fail-safe colour, in my eyes. It’s similar to Chanel Mademoiselle rouge coco lipstick (review here) in that it makes you look polished but never overdone. Great for work and school.

On me, Pink Adobe is a very very nice version of MLBB. It is crazy creamy pigmented and was opaque in one application.

Wear time averaged around 5 hours before I had to reapply.

Here is a swatch of Pink Adobe and True Coral (review coming soon). That’s with one swipe.

Purchase

Tom Ford’s private blend lipsticks are LUXE. With a price tag of $65AUD (or $48USD), they are much more expensive than Chanel’s lipstick offerings and are definitely a splurge.

These are as exclusive as exclusive gets. Tom Ford Beauty is sold at selected locations in the country. In Sydney, it’s the Elizabeth St David Jones store but you can purchase it from the David Jones website :) For other states, call 1800 061 326 for your nearest stockist.
